Oil for short trips?

I have a 07 Silverado V8. I only put on about 15 miles per day, because I live so close to work. I understand that short trips are not good for the engine. I have 700 miles on it and will change it around 1000. Do you think a Synthetic oil would be better for my use?--short trips and all?---I wonder if Chevy recommends it??.
I was thinking of Valvoline Syn. 5/30 or just use Castrol GTX and change it more often??
Thanks in advance!!

The problem is when the trip is so short that the engine does not reach operating temp. 15 miles should be OK. Personally, I would recommend a good syn oil. Take your pick.
On my 2000 Yukon, I changed the oil at 1000, then again at 4000 before switching to syn. I wanted to be sure the engine was broken in before the switch. Not sure if it made a difference waiting until 4000.
Others may have a different opinion of when to switch.

Synthetic should be fine.
Good idea changing at 1000 miles though. That way you'll get a lot of the metal shavings out that come off the engine as it's breaking in.

Castrol GTX would be the way to go.. with there anti-sludge mix.. it makes changing the oil much easier and you do not have to worry about build up.
Not a big fan of synthetic, unless you are racing all the time. It is not worth the extra price you pay since you will still replace the oil every 3K-5K miles anyways.

another vote for Mobil1 synthetic. I would not stray from the recommended weight of oil though.
