So...

I had to run over to my parents place to feed their dog for them. No biggie, only a couple miles. Grand Am is having alternator issues, so I took the Trans Am. Stopped at the gas station and filled it up.
On to my parents place and feed the dog.

I leave, and take the slightly longer way home. Just makes a bigger block for me and keeps the roads 4 lanes.
All the while I am driving pretty tame.

Enter red Civic with wanna-be CF hood. IE painted black. Melon launcher. Cheap body kit. Etc.
He is behind me turning south. All the while, I am keeping it real easy.

Then it happens. Since it is a 4 lane road, we have two lanes to merge into. With me taking it easy, I guess he thought his chance was there.
As soon as I heard the lawnmower rev up, I put her in 1st gear. Waited for him to get along side of me....
I don't think he expected this....and neither did I. I guess the Nitto DR's don't hold quite as well when it is 60 degrees outside.
Car breaks traction and I spin a bunch...enough that I wasn't pulling. So I shifted into 2nd gear and the same happened. Spun, but not too bad. Enough to toss the rear out just a touch and create some smoke.

Poor bastard....got literally 'smoked.' :lol:
And all the while I heard that black and decker trying its little heart out.

Backed off at about 45-50 MPH. Speed limit is 45 through there, so I went down to 40 MPH.
He wouldn't pass. :lol:

I am used to the rear end swinging out a little bit.

Hell...last week when I raced it it got loose into 4th gear going 95.

I was mostly refering to non-street cars. By no means is a trailer a bad thing, but I have been holding my own with full on race cars.

Truth is though, you're most def. now making more power at the back tires then I am at the flywheel. But the big difference would be I've got a superior suspension for drag racing and probably atleast 1000 less pounds. I will put my 383 in this car eventually though. Then we'd be pretty close in power. But with that motor, I'm almost certain I'd be in the low 6s in an 1/8th, and with the right gear, high 9s in a 1/4.

I would like to know what my car would do where you run though. I'd say it'd atleast slow down 5 or 6 tenths, atleast. As for here in the 1/4, judging by my 6.77 1/8th mile pass, that'd probably be about 10.70s in the 1/4 somewhere in the neighborhood of 125 mph. I'm pretty confident that it'd make a 1/4 pass with that 3-spd transmission, even though it has a 5.13 gear (we think). Probably be cranking over 7000 at the lights, but that's fine too.

I know about running out of gear.
If I get a 5800 DA night...I will be right at redline crossing the traps. Near 122 MPH. Thing is...it is quite rare to be under 7000.

Sea level...I would have to run a taller tire to counteract the gear. Otherwise I would probably be having to let off at 1100 feet right at 124 MPH. At least the ET wouldn't suffer too much.

Per calculators...I run a 10.7 at 129-130 with a zero DA. Of course...I would have to learn the car all over again. And it isn't caged, nor will it ever be. I want to get to that 11.49 here and call it good.

You know, I'm not real sure what the redline is on my car, lol. I shift on 7000 rpms. It shifts into 2nd at about a 150 feet, then into 3rd at around 500 feet. Just guessin, don't really know. I do know it's not in 3rd gear for too long before the finish line.

And I haven't looked to see how many rpms its turning at the 1/8th stripe. I'm going to make sure and look next weekend though. My other car would turn 7400, but that was a Powerglide, so it was in high gear for well over half the track.

What size gear do you run?? And what gear you in when you go through the lights?

Looks like I might have to pass on racing this week. Unless the forecast clears up. Looks like the first snow is coming in for the Broncos-Ravens game tomorrow night...and I live all of 15 miles from the stadium.
Then as of right now...they are calling for a chance of snow Wednesday night as well. Too bad...wanted one more shot at it.

I dont know for sure, but we think my car has a 5.13 gear. I'm all but convinced I could make a 1/4 pass with it. I mean its got 32" tall tires and a 3-spd tranny. And it wouldn't hurt this motor at all to go 7400 rpms. In fact, the next time I get to go to a test and tune, I'm going to try shifting it on 7400 rpms

Yeah...the tire helps make up for the gear. Those are tall.

If I can find a 27" tire, I would probably be perfect at sea level. Right at redline through the traps in 4th.

I might could go with a 33" tall tire, but I dont know. Pretty sure that 14" is as wide as I can go.

I can fit a 28" tire.
But not dropped. I would have to get some taller springs and maybe roll the fenders a little.

to get the big tires back there and I know you said that ain't never going to happen with your T/A.

I thought this picture would show that my fenders are trimmed a little, but it don't. But my point is, you have to do those little things (trim around the fenders, etc.) even when you get a narrowed rear end and tubs.
