Where is the creativity??

Ok, we have some super talented modelers on this board with some truly spectacular models under their belts. One thing that seems to be missing is some imagination! If you build strictly race-car replicas you are obviously limited in what you can do with it other than max-out the details but lets see some more street cars with some engine swaps, wild paint, even a lowrider! P-man, your Evo was cool - let's see more! Guiddy, how about it?!

I think that with the age poll i done we have alot of young guys who are just starting out in modelling and feeling there way around in the hobby.
Most start with simple kits and start to progress from there.
Also i guess its because most of the kits are already build how most people want them......nice and simple to get the basics.
Most kits here seem to be of the "Import" scene. If there was more people here that built early American classics you would see a change

A few people on this forum have modified kits to certain extents, but nothing major.

It would be nice to see lots more conversions and scratchbuild etc coz thats certainly what i'm into as you know. However if everyone did this we wouldn't see many models on the board, for example look how many Warren has churned out - and to excellent standard - compared to myself!

I am busy with a Fujimi Renault Megane Coupe that came with some Welsh Rally decals, but still has a stock interior, I am going to scratch a roll cage, add Sparco/Recaro seats and turn the interior into that of a Group N like the decals are for.....

I am new to the hobby and am having trouble imagining myself doing all sorts of mods and scratchbuilt things some hardcore and talented ppl are doing here.
I got into the hobby simply because I like cars. That's it.
Not too sure if that's a good thing or not, I am not overly crazy about 'super detailed mega transformed award winning' model myself. Don't get me wrong, I love the works of ppl here. they are awesome, but I really don't have the time, paitience and dedication to invest in something I only do for relaxation in the morning or before I sleep (yes, and I am not good enough to do that either).
I just want to build some easy kits of the cars I like with nice finish/graphics that I can put on my shelves  Not that there's anything wrong with that eh.
But for those of you who can almost do this for a living. Please show us the potential of this hobby.

I've been modelling for 20 years now, although it's a while since I built anything. Mostly out-of-the-box to hone basic techniques, and then box-stock with aftermarket detail parts. I've just started flinging globs of putty at a Tamiya R33 Skyline to do my first custom... harder than Fly on the Wall makes it look!
Pics later if it turns out any good...;)

I was actually thinking about popping a R32 skyline engine into my AE86, but we'll see what happens:)

I have a kit that's cut apart along virtually every panel line... Now all I have to do is re-assemble, right? :uhoh: :silly2:

well... after posting that i was in the works for the 510 project... i proceded to spill CSC all over my ENTIRE kit that i was working on. it is absolutely trashed. all the sub assemblies that i had together are now white again, no chance on getting them apart to repaint everything. so, after spending tons of time scratch building a firewall and a modified hood, all is now in the trash...
sigh.
but i did learn a very good modeling lesson... never leave a box of painted bits below a shelf with a tupperware container full of CSC. it WILL spill. plus, i found that CSC takes off 1-2 layers of brushed on paint in about 5 seconds.
on to the next project... fujimi toyota estima zeus, possibly with a veilside inspired front end.
ever so depressed...

I didnt give up that easy MP my 510 had a burn mark on the center of the roof(no thanks to great friends) so i improvised i cut a moonroof with the possibilities of a sliding rag top. mine is a longshot from being done due to other projects and school
all the sub assemblies that i had together are now white again, no chance on getting them apart to repaint everything.
for the assemblies all you had to was brush some thinner on the glue joints to soften them up

well... it is too late for the 510... i was too angry with myself and the stupid move i made putting the CSC above it.
i ripped the wheels off and saved the tires and axles, everything else was tossed cuz i was too angry at the time. man, i cussed like a sailor when i did it!!!!
so, like i said, on to the next project. i might go get another 510 and do it box stock, or maybe add some bit to it, but probably nothing as ambitious as the first one. good luck with yours, but mine is RIP (resting in pieces)
