Does anyone replace coil packs as part of 'regular maintenance' @ say 100k?

Working on the ol 96 P71 this weekend and she is @ 160k miles. Not that I have money to burn - but was thinking of replacing the coil packs with the Accell coil packs. I had an old Torino back in the day and the Accell 'performance' coil made a difference (also added a little under the hood shinny...)

What do you think?

As long as what you have works stick with it. The stock coils put out enough power. Stick on some cheap aftermarket spark plug wires and non platinum spark plugs and see just how fast those coils will burn them up.

The FACTORY coil packs make MORE than enough voltage for even supercharged applications.

A few people have installed Accel packs, none can report a power gain that is measureable (compared to any other new coil pack).

The biggest thing is wires and plugs. LOTS of cheapo crapola wire sets now days. I build my own with "Solid conductor tinned SS wire" from NAPA and the correct ends. You need a sparkplug wire stripper/crimper tool for this but that's not expensive either.

I work at a local ford dealership and we have been replacing the boots and springs on the coil packs as part of tune-ups. we have seen many problems with these boots leaking water past the seal and carbon tracking on high mileage vehiles. napa now offers a complete kit for this - as for power stock is plenty.
