Disarming Alarm??

Hey I have been scanning through this site and noticed a couple of suggestions about disarming the alarms in golfs... now is it the same procedure for all golfs? I have a 1996 Golf and desperately need to disarm my alarm... and of course the dealership says you can't do it so we need to do it ourselves... could someone please give me a detailed set of instructions on how to do this .... thanks sooo much!
