GTO vs. S2000 in the twisties.

So im driving around with my wife, windows up, AC on, radio blasting.
Im driving through this two lane road thats really freaking annoying cause its sweeping left after sweeping right. its like a snake drive and its full of trees so the tree branches cover the traffic lights and you cant see them till your right under them. leafs falling and filling up the corners. Nasty road!

I get to a light and a white S2000 pulls up on my left. the guys is looking over and smirking like he thinks hes got something I dont or some shit.
I tell my wife "look at this retard, I think he wants to go for it."
sure enough he strats revving. from what I can tell it was intake, exhaust and maybe some bodywork.
anyway light goes green and I take off at half throttle and pull the nose (mind you I got the wheel turned 3 quarters left cause its a rounder) he floors it and gets an inch so I floor it and the tail kicks out but I get a half car, I let off then correct it and back on but because of that he matches me.
I shift to second (right sweeper, turn right) I rip traction and pull a full car, (left sweeper) still holding the lead I pull another half car as I hit 6K. shift to 3rd in time to see a red light and I slam on the brakes. the fucker flyes the red.
I catch him a few lights down. and he's still smirking. my wife is like "dont!"
I lower the window. "hey I thought those cars where built for handling? what the fuck was that back there, you get your ass raped on the straights, the twisties, even brake better then you! your life and your car are preaty fucking worthless huh?"
then I burned out in his face and took off.

eh, I was pissed, its been a bad week.

I was an asshole, no doubt about it.
but see, im proud of being an asshole, I happen to be real good at being an asshole and since im not really a people person it works out quite nicely.
you wanna inssult me? call me a softy, a coward, a giver. but an asshole? Im quite flattered by that.

and yes Ive had a bad couple of weeks. I lost my job a few weeks ago, my wife's car blew the timming belt while she was driving and now needs to be fixed and I cant keep up with all the bills and the problems. I have to sell the GTO to pay for her repairs and the mortgage. I have maybe 5-7 more days before I get rid of it so Im living it up for the moment and I am quite bitter.

oh but dont feel bad for me, dont even give it a moments thought cause I dont want no pitty.

Well, best of luck with whatever happens. If you want, you can give the GTO to me, and I'll hold on to it till your ready for it. I would hate it if I had spent some money on the car like you have, and then have to get rid of it. Oh, and good kill. You weren't being a dick, the dude in the S2k was your standard cock bite ricer, and hopefull next red light he runs there is an 18 wheeler moving at a nice clip to show him where he stands on the food chain.

cause GTI's are common teenager cars and they also get stolen.

My advise Mushashi is to calm your temper down. You dunno the other guy, or his capabilities. I'm sure you don't mind getting your ass kicked, but something worse can happen. Besides that there could be legal repercussions. Trust me when I tell you you don't wanna go to jail. It will make finding a job alot harder for you (No I don't have a criminal record).

Anyways, did you find another job yet? I really suggest to stay clear of school, unless it's at a trade school (Hands on experience is wanted alot more). Crap man, you know alot about cars, try your hand at working at a dealership if you can.

Also, don't feel bad about the loss of the GTO. You had time to enjoy it, and you've had alot of kills with it. Get whatever cheap, and fun, alternative you can afford, and remember, racing is just for fun, you don't have to win all the time.

yeah cos the employer can pay u far less than someone with a degree when u would do a better job than them cos you would have experience.

actually here in miami so many people have degrees that it is really hard for them to find a job that would put the degree to use. The only degree that gets you a job here is a teaching degree and that's cause we are running out of teachers and that is cause they dont get paid enough. It's getting so bad about that, that now the teachers are about to go on strike, they were rioting with picket signs and everything this weekend.

I can agree that teachers are short everywhere....to a point where getting a good quality education has become a privilege which i think is a bunch of bullshit.

i'd like to point out that not many degrees are vocational i.e. designed to get u a certain job.

most degrees are designed to prove one thing: that you can think in a particular way. For example, Goldman Sachs in Australia likes to hire holders of law degrees combined with a commerce degree majoring in Finance to do investment banking jobs. Now u may very well wonder why u'd need a law degree to do banking. Their philosophy is that lawyers are trained to think in a particular way that will be good for IB. Whether they are wrong or right...the future will tell. (please note that a law degree does not qualify u to be a lawyer despite what many ppl think)

and because degrees are so common nowadays, the quality i.e the university you got it from is very important as well.

so to get a job that will put ur degree in good use is kind of a fairytale in this day and age.

For example, I have an accounting degree and completing combined degree by completing my second one in law, and my current job has extremely little to what I did/doing in univeristy. However, my employer would think that my degree has a lot to do with what i do - which they are only partially correct - as my degree teaches me some good analysys and communication skills that are usfeul to my job. However, the amount of actual course content that can be applied to my job is next to nil...perhaps about 15%. And I do my job well so don't think i'm just an idiot :icon16:

So all I was trying to point out before is this: ppl with a degree can't do practical stuff at all..useless. When i started my job, i was useless. However, ppl with degrees are able to learn new things a lot faster and have a wider scope of things they can pick up.

Ppl with a much more practical tertiary education skill are almost very good when they start their job...but u can pay them less cos they don't have a degree cos they are considered to have less scope in the long run.

For example, someone with an automotive engineering degree and someone who did car mechanics as a apprenticeship or similar. The engineering degreed perosn would be useless at fixing cars but will be able to pick it up within a yr as they know exactly how it works; whereas the mechanic off the bat will be able to fix cars cos they got practial learning. However, over the long run, the engineering degreed person will be able to learn new efficient methods of doing things and eventualy design new parts etc; whereas the mechanics guy will be able to fix things faster and will be able to pick up quite a few new tricks

both types of employees are important to the business but the none degreed person will get rorted cos they don't have a degree.

yeah cos the employer can pay u far less than someone with a degree when u would do a better job than them cos you would have experience.

Dunno how it is in Australia, but that doesn't hold a dimes worth of truth here in California. There are busloads of people with a Bachelor's Degree out there whom can't find work in their studied field. I'm sure some dude can go to UCLA and study over computer science, but most workplaces would prefer someone from DeVry or ITT over him/her. Besides a degree doesn't mean squat about someone's intelligence (I have a Bachelor's Degree btw), as the idea behind college is essentially to teach you being prepared to meet deadlines.

I get a kick everytime I join my dad on a jobsite. I can't believe how many stupid f&*king idiots they hire as structural engineers. The f&*kups that paid big money for a solid degree don't know not to put plumbing above circuit breakers, put in steel nails, instead of stainless steel nails around ocean beach property, forget to include structural braces, and put in a diesel powered generator backwards, so that the vent went into the parking structure, rather then outside. Alot of these well educated idiots treat others as simpletons, simply because they have a degree. What a joke. I had this discussion with Matt, and even he agreed with me.

Mind you if you are studying to be a doctor that is a different story. I just get a kick out of these people that studied over History, English, and Philosophy hoping to get jobs that paid well out of school.

Right_LiRrr
10-11-2006, 09:07 PM
u pretty much backed up my point wth ur structural engineers anecdote. Thats exactly what I said: when u have adegree, you are perceived to be better than someone without one even the the person without may have very good practical experience and can do the job better than you. Hence, an excuse to pay the non-degreed person more money.

and yes, many many ppl have a degree nowadas...hell you can get one on the internet. Thtat's why a degree is a two component thing, employers will first ask what it is, and where u got it from. Both of those components are very important.

And no, having a degree doesn't mean u r intelligent, but it is more probable that u r.

And intelligence has nothing to do with how well you can do a job.
