Inspection time is here again. Did a total tune up brakes, Tires, MAF, Oil, Plugs-Wires, Zerks. Hook up to portable cpu at local shop. Crankshaft Positioning Sensor Code. The Mechanic gives me a limited amount of info. Like yes its definately whats wrong. We cleared it and then cycled some miles thru it. And the SES light came back on. And it read same thing. I have a clue where its located. But not sure. I'm thinkin its a fairly mild procedure. But again im not a 100% on the details. Can anyone Hit me up with some info. Such as location and difficulty of said a project.

Pretty simple job. Pull off the the front shroud, and right on the timing chain cover, at the bottom, behind the harmonic balancer, on the passenger side, you will see it. It is held in place by either a 10mil, or 8 mil little bolt. Unplug it and pull it out, reinstall the new one, clear codes and you should be good to go.

What does the sensor sense to determine crank position?
Thr reluctor wheel is on the end of the crankshaft. The crank position sensor sends pulses to the ecm when the crankshaft spins past the sensor.

Ask him for the code no. and post it back.
And remember a code does not always say replace the sensor.
It says check it out first.
If it was a code P1345 the dist is not set right.

Hello every1. Recently I posted a question in reguards 2 location of the "CRANK"shaft position sensor. I capped and Quoted Crank because I specifically asked my Not so Honest Mechanic the diffy between Both Cam and Crank Shaft Sensors. I tripple checked if I needed 1 or the other. He Told me it was "CRANK" not "CAM". I reset the Damned cpu. cycled a bunch-o-miles. turned off the blazer. restarted it and bingo SES appeared. I then went back to said Garage explained my situation. And recieved this response, "Well I told ya $70/hr we'll fix'er up for ya".
SON OF A BITCH!!!!
So can some one tell me Where is the Camshaft position sensor . And how do I go about Changing it.
Basicaly They figured I was a dumb chick that woul just have them do the work. When I explained I'd do it myself they gave me the wrong info.

We need the code no.
Some parts places like autozone will read codes for free.
Just do not let them tell you how to fix it,
Just get code and post it back.
If the code is 1345.
It may not a cam or a crank sensor code.
It may be a code telling you dist is not set right.
Check the cam retard setting.
If over -3 or +3 cam retard you will need to reset the dist.
But you will need a scanner to check and set it.

Tips on finding a good mechanic.
Check around Ask around
Word of mouth.
Family friends coworkers neighbors business people and delivery people.
Mailmen and parcel delivery people get around and notice a lot of stuff.
Even a good parts house knows what shops are good and not good.
Chamber of commerce and better business bureau and city hall.
If you find a good referral to a repair shop go look them over and talk to them.
Look for a clean looking busy place with nice people running it.
Ask a few questions and ask about their qualifications and training.
Not all places have trained tech/mechanics.
If they do not find a place that does.
Even all dealers do not have all trained techs/mechanics.

If it is the crankshaft sensor, then the sensor in under the front of the truck and you will see the sensor near the front crank pulley.

A friend of mine climbed up into the engine compartment felt around the distributor. And wouldnt ya kno, the Camshaft sensor was UNPLUGGED!!!. He plugged it in I reset the cpu. Cycled some miles thru it. Turned it off waited a 1min. SES stayed off. gonna kiss the sky. so releaved. NYS Inspection here I come. On a downer The last person to touch the distributor was my mechanic. Thinkin he never replugged it back in. Also he was gonna charge me to diagnose it and fix it. Dishonest bastard!!!

MAn! lol! Confused?
The Mechanic told me CrankShaft position sensor 1st.
I replaced that with no resolve. Had AdvanceAuto run the cpu. Turned out 2 be Camshaft position sensor. Now u might think I just got them confused. But I didnt. I asked him several times Cam or Crank. Only because Crank is$80. Cam is $30. He even explained the difference of the two to me. When I brought the new developement 2 the Mechanic he smuggly said 2 pay him and he would diagnose it and fix it for $70/hr. He also unplugged the Camshaft sensor. So my SES would not turn off. All this time! since I replaced the Intake manifold gasket. I had him set my Distributor 4 me. I Couldnt get it in right so I paid him like $100 or so to install the Distributor. By the way all new cap rotor plugs wires. Im real happy its all behind me. Time to move on. I mean it would suck if some one stole the Pepsi Machine from infront of his garage.
