exhaust smells of sulfur, 96SE

Basically whenever I drive my car hard (WOT for more than 5 seconds or so) I get a really bad sulfer smell coming in from the window when i come to a stop. If anyone here has played with model rockets before, and smelled the motor right after it lands, thats what I'm smelling.

Im pretty sure its not burning oil, that shouldn't smell of sulfur (though it might...)

As best I can gather from miscellanious faq's and the like, it would seem like my cat is overheating. Also my dad noticed an abnormal amount of heat coming out of the car after driving it, so that fits.


Now my question is: why might it be overheating, and what might I do to fix it? (Also, how bad will it be if i ignore it?)

Also my check engine light is (has been) on for some misc. error with the EGR, I think it might be connected, but I don't know how.


car has been fine otherwise (engine wise) except i've occasionally gotten a wiff of gas through the ac when i open up the throttle, presumably nothing though.

Sounded like a bad cat to me maybe bad gas. What code is the EGR code? I'd get that fixed first.

well thats good, so long as it wouldn't be obstructing the flow too much it won't be much of a problem (its passed inspection recently, so i've got 2 years, and i doubt the car will last that long.)

don't remember the egr code off hand (i'll see if i can dig it up, or get it run through again though) saw a mechanic about it when it first popped up, but no dice on exactly what was wrong, so i figure im sol there.
