ignition problem

My girlfriend pulled my key out of the ignition and said "oops" now the key spins freely and no start ... any ideas ?

You mean besides not letting gf have the keys to your car? By spins freely do you mean the key turns the normal distance and nothing happens or the key spins freely around in a circle?
You could pull your ignition switch and take it in to a locksmith to see what they can do. Alternatively you could acquire a new switch/key from a wrecking yard or ebay and install it. That would get you back on the road but you would have one key for the ignition and a different one for the door locks.
