Finally just about finished!
See http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=608490 for progress thread.
Built from Hasegawa 968 Kit. Basic bodyshape and components generally very good but getting them altogether in a manner that looked convincing was incredibly difficult! Nothing seemed to fit in the position needed to look realistic so lots of modifications needed. All part of the fun though!
Some more outside photos including chassis and engine to follow hopefully at the weekend if the weather is ok!

Wow, terrific looking build! The paint looks great- black really is beautiful.
But it's awfully close to the edge of the TV, isn't it? :uhoh:
If I could make one tiny suggestion, it would be to paint the wheel bolts in flat black. I think it would make a huge difference in the appearence of the wheels.

Very cool build, nice and clean. What's the difference between this car and the 928?

Agree with Kunta - Black is HOT!
Amazing! If I didn't already know about your work on the wheels already, I don't think I'd have ever guessed how much was done to them.

totally random but we've got the same mouse!
i recognise the dock/chair!
hmm, is there enough paint on the car for you to be bit braver with the sanding/compound/polish?
that patch on the door is needs a little more work.

Great work, your model captures the looks of 968 perfectly! 968 is one of my favourite Porsches.
I know what you mean when you say the parts look good but the end result may not be too realistic straight from the box... Especially the headlights need some adjustment. I have had one of these about 90% finished in my project pile for too many years just because there's something odd in its looks. Your model makes me want to dig my project out and see if I can finally finish it :icon16:

Thanks for all the comments.
Yes I probably will paint the wheel bolts flat black or at least a wash in the recesses.
I always seem to do a photo that shows some orange peel!
And you're right there is a small bit of it on the door but it is very minor and only really shows up in the close up photos. The reason I didn't use cutting polish more is because it was hard not to get white from the cutting polish into the door handle recesses which would be a nightmare to completely remove from a black finish.
As well as problems with the fitting of the headlights getting the chassis into the correct position was scary too. I had to place it lower than the locating lugs at the back so had to force the body over them somewhat and I was waiting for a horrible breaking sound but luckily I got away with it!
To get the body to look correct once the chassis is on you have to squeeze the sills onto the chassis sides and glue onto these edges of the chassis (I used non fog superglue with kicker to make it hold quickly) to pull the body in. Doing this prevents the bottom sides of the bodyshell appearing too wide which is what I think you proabaly mean by not looking quite right.

Superb black finishing, and great pics too: I noticed an appreciable impproovment on pics quality lately, on AF, that's cool.

Some more photos taken outside of the engine and chassis. I've just noticed that I need to reposition the rear dampers because I adjusted the ride height.

Sorry, I don't quite understand what you mean.
The rims that are on the completed model are the ones that I made myself using modified Rennaisance Enkei Rims combined with the kit rims which were of too small diameter to look realistic.

That horrible breaking sound is awful, and resulted in this when I built my 968.

Luckily it was a clean break and it glued back together square.

Oh no, what a nightmare! I must have been luckier tha I thought then! Glad to hear that you got it sorted out. Any pictures of the finished model?

That looks great! I also have this kit as one of my 'to be completed when I get a little bit better' projects. I plan on painting it black as well with some aftermarket rims. Thanks for this preview of what mine could look like! Looks great. Any plans to build a matching 944?

Not yet, but may do in the future, look forward to seeing your one when you get round to doing it.

Looks gorgeous! The black paint is so deep and wet, it looks amazing. The work on the wheels is impressive too, as is the engine and the PE wipers and... everything. Great, great work!
