My printers buggered

My printer broke this week and wouldn't print. So i took it off to get fixed.
Got it back today and i'm pissed off
I have been told that it will cost $189 for a new print head and $75 to fit the little bastard...FUCK....THE THINGS ONLY $239 TO BUY THE WHOLE PRINTER BRAND NEW

The reason it broke??....i have been told that you should not use other cheaper brand "re-fills" for the colour and the black as the ink is different.
Because we have a EPSON printer i've been told that i should have only used new EPSON ink re-fills.
I THINK THIS GUY IS TAKING THE PISS OUT OF THE PMAN'S WIFE WHEN SHE PICKED IT UP

He is lying. Unless you used completely incompatible print inks (like if you had to use a hammer to install them 'cause they were made for a different printer) he's full of it. I don't know if you Kiwis have the store Staples (www.staples.com) but you can get a decent printer for $50 there, if it's on rebate.

Stupid Question #4 for the day... (don't worry I've asked the other stupid questions @ work today)

When did you buy the printer? If it's reasonably recent then look at your warranty card.

The other option is to see if you have the packaging for the print cartridges and pursue this with the cartridge manufacturer (poss for consequential damage if it isn't limited by condition of sale).

If you do finally decide to buy a printer BEFORE you do - try contacting EPSON in NZ and tell them that you are going to buy a printer BUT NOT ANOTHER EPSON and that you wouldn't recommend one to anyone else. Explain what happened and see if they can help you out... (ie discount, some cartridges or something) otherwise I'd be buying someone else's printer...

Sorry, but Ireckon that even if you are still in the warranty period, you will find that using non-epson ink will void the warranty. And if you are planning to buy a new one DONT look at Hewlett Packard.....the ink is contained in a disposable cartridge which also has the print head built in...$95 a time unless you are prepared to risk stuffing the head to get more ink in...   that's what I did :(

I got a cannon about 2mnths ago, just a cheapo but it works, cost me just under $200.
But it has a replaceable Print head, as well as seperate cartridges.
So if it screws up, and apprently they wear out after about 4 cartridge replacements I can just replaces the head for a cost of about $50.

Iv unforunatly only ever heard bad things about the Epson printers, I know ppl who have owned them had them just stop working for no reason, as well as encounter huge compatiblity issues when upgrading OS's etc.

H&P in my experiance are the best, but then they are also the most expensive the buy and run. I guess you get what you pay for.

But Warren it sounds like you got royaly buggered yourself. :finger:
Always get a quote first!!!!!!!!!!!

OUCH!
Thats an hours labour just to check whats wrong with it?
Personaly I would tell them they can keep your printer instead of you paying anything, then go buy a cheap cannon from or something other than an Epson from a differnt shop.
It's certianly not worth getting it fixed, and its clearly no use to you if it dosnt work.

good enuff excuse for them to get out of doing anythin...as even here all PC manufacturers say that, if you use non standard cartridges...if anything goes wrong....U got no chance for any help......

so its up to you to take the risk...some get away with it, some don't sadly...:(

been using a the smae HP for about 6-8 yrs never given me any probs...though the cartridges ain't cheap:( :)

With lower end printer (under $300) its almost always cheaper to replace the whole damn thing then to get them repaired.

See the problem with Primera man's printer really is that he needs to get with the program. Having a monkey inside the printer, printing all your jobs is going to give him a heart attack. Stop being in the Flintstone age.:finger: :D

UPDATE.
Took the printer into the place i have been buying the refills to ask them why they sell refills that stuff printers.
They told me that we have been told a bunch of crap by someone who is just trying to rip me off by saying it is stuffed and i need a new one.

This guy took my printer away and within 5 minutes he had it printing again. The problem...a air block in the ink feed which can happen quite a few times with this type of printer.
No cost and 2 new refills :) :) ...cant beat that for service !!!

Now this is where it gets good
This prick i took the printer to first to fix it, just slapped it all back together with out any care because he said it was stuffed and has fucked the "paper feed" due to his piss poor workmanship. When the paper is going though the printer it sounds like its about to blow apart.

The PMan is paying this little prick a visit tomorrow morning...so i hope he has a good sleep tonight because he's going to have i very pissed off PMan waiting at 9am on his door front.

This kind of shit really pisses me off. You have to take these people for there word and you hope you can trust them.....BASTARDS

Recommended restorative justice......

1.locate shitbag printer retailer

2. insert printer cable down back of his trousers

3. reach down his throat until you can grasp printer cable

4.Pull printer through.Slowly.
