Do you think that $2400 is a good price for the Honda Prelude Type S, H22A engine with 220HP and 163lb ft.? and where can I buy one for a wicked price, so they can ship it to Canada. Thanx

2400$ is an incredible price for a Type-S H22a. They are really rare ive seen them from 4500$ to 6500$ for engine, transmission, and ECU.:smoker2:

$2400 is an exceptional price....especially if its a complete swap. Where are you getting this deal from?

Type S for $2400 is just going to be the motor - not the complete swap. I got Type S complete swaps for $4000. :smoka:

How do you like your Type S? Are you planning to run a turbo? If so, what are your plans for boost and compression.

I run a 13.34 On slicks with H/I/E But the handling is way different and not good so if you want speed for handling dont do it but if you want to go fast in a strait line than do it

Just my opinion; but I have an JDM H22 in my 97 Accord, and I had looked into the Type-S and the price was about 4500, just like most of you have said. I paid 2200 for my H22 which comes with 200hp, and the Type-S comes with 220hp. So my question is; are you willing to pay 2300 bones for 20hp? You can practically bolt that on for 100 bucks (figuratively spoken) but none the less 2300 bucks for 20 horsies? But thats just a thought. If you have that kind of money laying around, by all means go for it, but if your on a fixed budget like most of us, you may want to invest that 2300 bones somewhere else, like a turbo or something. Hell you can find Type-S cams for about 600 bucks, and you still come out ahead. Other than that the transmission if I'm not mistaken was an ATTS, which if I had my druthers I would go with the LSD (which usually is a $300 upgrade at most engine swap shops). Just trying to help you get more bang for your buck.. Peace!

Only if its a 97 or newer; then it would be a good deal. As I just stated before, they go for about 2200 bucks. So honestly 2300 bucks would be a little high. I've seen them for 1500, so its all a matter of how hard you look for them. As a matter of fact my buddy was telling me they have 2 of them in Florence, NC for 500 bucks a piece.

Ok let me say this again. I know of a person who has two H22 engines complete; "swaps"(as you like to call them) for $500 each, that includes the fricking tranny, ECU, wiring harness, axles, shift linkage, etc. This normally goes for about $2200. Right? Ya exactly! Now a "swap" as you like to say and quite frankly misused, is the actual installation of an engine into a car. A "swap" is usually $500-1500 dollars for the actual installation of the engine. That's in addition to the $2200 engine, tranny, etc.. And partner as for as shipping; thats usually $300 throughout the continental U.S. Think before you reply dude!

Actually "swap" means just that... LABOR is LABOR
And your first mention of your $500 "swaps" did not mention anything else...
But I wouldnt bother waisting my time with it - dont matter how good of a condition it is, either its stolen (no offense) or it really isnt in the shape it is said to be in. Even if they got the deal of the century and got a whole parts car for $1000 and stripped them down, they wouldnt just sell the motor/tranny/axles etc. for $500... too iffy

Thank Bro, no offense but what the hell are you going to do with a MUGEN motor? Its nothing like a HONDA built motor, its no where as reliable... your Honda can go like 30k miles before a service and like 60-90k or more (depending on how much you rag on it) before its first rebuild, good luck even seeing half those numbers out of a MUGEN built motor. They, along with SPOON are built for one purpose... to race. If you dont have a race car, dont even bother buying one. Sure, if you want to waste $6000 on a damn motor just to have a motor fine do whatever the hell you want... but while your bragging to your friend "Hey I spent $6000 on my motor" and he laughs because he bought an H22 swap, rims a kit and paint for $6000 and whoops you in a race... dont come crying to the rest of us.
Also, an H22 "block" doesnt just bolt upto an integra. You need new mounts and also a new transmission, computer - and a bunch of other things as well. But the B18c will...
Do you have the ability to go pickup a motor (locally...) either like a friend with a truck or renting a UHAUL trailer or something? If so, I can get you some prices on some differant motors - just email me and ill be happy to help you.

Gotta break it down for the old man!!
H22a w/tranny, ecu, wiring harness, axles = $500-$2200
Installaion of that engine; i.e. labor = $500-$1500
(Dependant on motor mounts and other
misc parts needed as many swaps
require serious modification; i.e.
H22 into a CRX
Giving us a grand total of $1000-$3700
Granted trying to find it all on the low side is rare but can be done. Now yes sparq you were right it could be stolen, but that why you have the po-po run the numbers for ya, and second yea the engine may not be all that, but no used engine is. Thats why most engine distributers do compression tests, and give a 30-90 day start-up warranty. Everything there after is on you as the consumer. So quite frankly when you are messing with used engines and doing swaps, then you should know that there always going to be kinks in it. Nothing used is perfect. Hell nothing new is ever perfect either. I just swapped a JDM H22 into my Accord and it had all kinds of problems, but after 3 weeks of troubleshooting and testing and tuning, we have finally gotten all of the kinks out. Now she runs like she did when I rolled her off the showroom floor (well except much faster ofcourse)
Now as far as how they sell them so cheap; well I don't know, maybe they got one hell of a buy-in or buy some serious bulk, and want all the busines coming there way. Who knows, and who cares? If its stolen, you run a number and you will know. If it don't work right, well what can you say? You got a compression test and a start-up warranty (if its a reputable company) So you should know that it could end up costing more in the long run as it is used..

Well does your $500 swap come with a warranty?
And trust me I know that swaps arent perfect, I sell them. But if you pay $500 for a scortched motor with nothing good in it etc. etc. and its going to cost you that much to get it running - what was the damn purpose? Sure I can sell you a swap for $100, and then charge you $2300 shipping.. but I can offer a "$100 swap" - all wording. But like I said, not hating on your $500 swap, but the old rule of thumb... IF SOMETHING IS TOO GOOD TO BE TRUE, IT PROBABLY IS!

Well apparently the swap price is a regional thing, I live in NC and its $500 to a grand just about anywhere you go. Some swaps are not that hard to do. An H22 into a CRX on the other hand will cost alot more because the hollowing out of the firewall. Your right in most cases you do get what you pay for. On the other side of that, if you know the right people you can get taken care of. I paid $3300 for my H22 and $1200 for the swap, and I still got a crappy install, the fuckheads wired it up wrong among other things. Me and my new mechanic went through it with a fine tooth comb, and fixed all the kinks. Which I later realized that I; not being mechanically inclined so to speak, could have done a better install than they did. Now with that said after paying $1200 I would have expected a better install. So it doesnt matter if its $500 or $2000, you can still get a shitty install. So I would have rather went with the $500 install and went through it with a fine tooth comb, and atleast I would have came out $700 dollars ahead. Thats just my particular situation though. I have to keep in mind that I'm in NC and the Import scene has just become popular here, and same said for engine swapping. Some businesses don't realize yet that there are certain engines out there that are worth something to us import racers. So they are ignorant when selling these engines for dirt cheap, they simply don't know there value. They are catching on though, and have quoted outrageous prices, far above what I could order one from Cali for and have it shipped to my door. Its obvious with this scene being so new here we don't have qualified swappers here either. I would have much preferred to have this transplant done on the west coast, because I have a feeling it would have been done right the first time.

Yes that is my Accord below all this text. As far as posting a pic of the engine compartment there is one if you watch it long enough. I haven't posted any pics yet as the car is in the body shop getting some more work done to it. My Buddy Club front is being put back on, and the handles are being reshaved, The engine bay is currently a wreck as we have to still paint it. We just put a Clutch Masters Stage 1 clutch and flywheel in, and the MSD goes in on Monday. My intake and headers are on their way and then I will be cleaning the bay up, and will take some better pics to post, then it will be show quality. The pics I have right now, show it right after the swap was done, and it looks horrid. LOL

Well this is my first post, I've been "surfing around" on the forums looking for info and I haven't been compelled to respond to anything until now.
First I also live in NC, and I'm just wondering what kind-of shops that wagsaccordsir knows of? I just totalled my '89 Prelude and I'm looking at buying a '94 Accord. The H22 swap is first on my list. My only proble, is that I don't know any good shops that are reputable enough for the work. Please email me at [email protected] if you have any info. Thanks.
Second, I have been involved in nearly every aspect of car scenes for a while now. I've seen nearly every mod and car. I've traveled all over the country to shows. I've been to street rod show, mini truck shows, import shows, and many many more. While at these shows, I haven't liked every single ride that I saw ther, but I atleast repected the work and effort that was put into it. A person's ride is an expression of what they like, if you don't like it then that's cool, but atleast appreciate the work. Twisted4runner don't such an ignorant person. Just because you may not like the car, doesn't give you a reason to insult and basically be an asshole. Wagsaccordsir never asked for your opinion, he wasn't bragging on his car, he was just trying to answer some peoples questions. I appreciate wags' help and his info. And personally, I like his car. It took alot of work and desire to finish it. Good Job.

There we go, casting judgement and assumptions, how the hell would you know if I have entered any shows or won at shows? You'd be suprised at what you don't know.

I also sell engine swaps.....
Buying JDM engines without the ECU means you are just simply asking for trouble. since you will spend a lot more time and money to get your engine working. that is why I get front clips. shipping is a killer. but the engine is more protected. and it comes with the ECU, wiring, and all sorts of goodies just in case other parts wear out or get broken.
