Transmission Cooling Lines

A customer of mine has a rusted (leaking) transmission cooling line on his '92 Caprice. I've checked all over for pre-formed tubing and nobody seems to have any. It seems a pain to take the old line off and try to make the bends with the proper fittings etc. but may be the only course of action to take. Just wondering if anybody has run across this job on one of their Caprices? If so did you bend a line or find a pre-formed line or line set somewhere? Thanks, Formzy

If it's a small leak, I usually cut it with a tube cutter, then splice it with rubber transmission cooler line. If the whole tube is a problem looking for a place to happen, I will grab one from a junkyard to replace it. If it's an emergency that can't wait, I will grab a length of steel line from a place like Autozone or Checker, they sell 'brake' line in 5/16" dia. up to 60" long ... and it's not that expensive. With a good tube bender, it's cake to bend it yourself.

I had the same problem with my 87, they had rotted out where they go into my radiator, I cutted out the rotted part and put a rubber hose between it.

If you go the rubber hose route, make sure the clamps are tight, I had quite a adventure when I didnt tighten mine enough.
