Add rear hatch button

I have a '97 Plymouth Grand Voyager, the outside rear hatch handle is messed up (lock slide is rusted) and won't open from outside. I removed the interior trim panels to access the handle and noticed a plug connected to the handle and guessed I had a remote hatch release somewhere but can't find the button. After referring to the AF I realized that the button was discontinued but I wanted to know if I could add the button to my van. If anyone has done this, please let me know.
