Hi!
I've got a question that might sound a little bit stupid, so I'll explain it afterwards:
Do 98-02 Trans Am come with a regular sparetire and if so, where is it located?
Backround is this: I don't have such a car around here in Germany, so I can't look for myself. And second, I'd like to know that because fuel prices here are considerably high and I plan to buy one and to run the car on LPG. A common place for the LPG-tank is the place where the sparetire is located in most cars (beneath the trunk inside the car). That's why I'm asking. Hope my English is still understandable - it's been a while since I last tried ;-)
Thank you in advance!

You english is perfectly understandable.
In my 2001 Firebird (not Trans-Am), the spare tire is when you open the back trunk, on the right, there is like a plastic-lid thing that is fastened by some weak plastic screws, underneath that, there is the spare tire as well as all the other tools.

Thank you for your answer. Is it standing upright or lying "on it's face"? I think it has to be level (lying), so one could put a LPG-tank there instead.

its standing upright.. however, you might be able to put a LP tank NEXT to the gas tank. Firebirds and camaros have this weird trunk, where theres a deep well, where you can put sounds and stuff.. its because of the way they put their gas tank, straight up and down..

Over here (in Germany) it's only half the price of regular fuel (because of low taxes), but has the disadvantage of a little more consumption and a little loss of power (5-20%). Still a good deal though...

Otherwise known as propane gas here. I understand the main reason is for a change over is money, but with the cost of parts & higher consumption is it really cost effective? Are there kits out there to do this or are you making one up yourself? Back in the day they used to make farm tractors that ran on LPG, but that never caught on very well here, and I have seen gas company's vans run on natural gas, but again that hasn't caught on here either. Why would you start with a high performance car? Are you aware that with a stock LS1 (v8) and a 6 speed manual with 3.42 rear end gears you can achieve 28+ mpg? That is my own personal numbers from my car before I changed the rear end ratio, it was mostly country driving (few stops, 55mph speed limits, & I do not take it easy taking off from a stop), there is no doubt in my mind that I could do much better if I was easier on the accelerator pedal. With the 6 speed manual and 3.42 ratio while running 80 mph (128.7475 km/h) the engine rpm is less then 2000 rpm. If your looking for fuel mileage I'd consider going with a 6 speed, its basically set up like a 4 speed with 2 over drive gears, and since your not looking for straight line speed i'd consider the 6 speed (only available behind the LS1 V8, the V6 uses a 5 speed). Just something to consider, they do recomend you run premium gas, and it makes it perform better, so im sure that makes your gas just that much more expensive. Oh and by the way if you purchase one and build/put a LPG kit on it be sure to post some pics & mileage your getting, I'd atleast be interested in knowing, oh and tell the modifications you had to do to make it run safe in the car. Would a compression change be necessary to run LPG or do they run the compression in LPG cars?
