AMT/ERTL '36 Ford Coupe

Hey everyone i am new to this site and its been a while since i have done a model. I am just wondering if anyone has any suggestions on how to lower my 36' coupe. Also as i am thinking about going for the rat rod look how might i achieve the rust or patina look? Also I wouldn't mind having whitewall tires however the kit comes with traight blacks. Is there any way i can whitewalls these tires or would i have to get new ones?
