I am new to this and I am trying to find out some more information on my intake gasket problems. In a routine oil change, I was informed that I have oil leaking into my coolant due to a faulty intake gasket made by GM. And now I am faced with the expenses of having the gasket replaced and my radiator flushed. I was told that this seems to be a reoccuring problem with 3.1L engines, so anyone with any helpful websites or information please contact me.

Welcome to AF, exactly how did they determine this, have you been loosing coolant by the way also?

I have been losing a little coolant (nothing that sent warning signs) but i have noticed that my engine has been running at a little higher temp then when i first bought the car. They determined it when they went to check the coolant they couldn't read it because it was full of sludge at first they just said I would need a flush. I took it to a different mechanic and when removing the raditor cap there was sludge on it and the hose were get soft due to the oil leakage. They said they have seen worse but seeing how i have low mileage(38000) on my car, it is why it hasnt shown before this time. But i should have it fixed right away before my engine goes.

Hey my 96 has the same problem with oil in my overflow tank. And my hoses are soft and oilly. And I lose VERY little coolant but enough to add once a month or so. But there is no oil loss or coolant in the oil that I can see. Just the reverse. I was just going to live with it. I have 106,000 miles. But if this could ruin something, then I will look for the same help as you.
