tire suggestions would be helpful

i recently picked up an older Camaro and found out that a local Motorsports place has 'pay per lap'. I really want to take my car out for a spin except i don't know what the best kind of tires are. any suggestions?

Yeah, RT615s FTW on a street/track car.

uhhh yeah i agree. but if you can live with some shorter lasting street/track tires, i like yokohama A032Rs or Avon Tech Rs.

I've been doing lots of reading and BFG R1 keeps popping up. Best i can tell is that they're no longer made. But then a buddy told me that when he was at sema last year, apparently bfg was talking about bringing it back. Should i wait? anyone hear anything?

I've been doing some research the last few months for new tires and recently came across something cool i thought i'd share. the bfg site has some great photos from this years Sema and there's a picture of a Mustang with R1s! Plus R1s are now in their tire listing! BFG tends to be grossly overpriced for under-performing tires. I.e. there are better cheeper tires out there. Cheep would be the deciding factor here, being a novice you are going to wear through tires quite quickly... and you cant go lapping if you are spending all your $$ on tires.


for a combined street/track, I would actually suggest not going with the RT-615, simply because although much better at dealing with heat then the old RT-215, it still does overheat and get greasy. It just takes longer to do it. I would suggest somthing that deals with heat much better for lapping days such as the Kumho MX or the Hankook Ventus Z212. Also for an "R" compound, Although techincally faster, I would avoid the Hoosiers for now. You'll destroy them in a day or two of lapping and you wouldnt be getting 10/10ths out of them yet any ways. Run one of the harder compounds like the Toyo RA1. THey may not be as "fast" as the hoosiers, but they are plenty fast and last substantually longer.
