I drive a 93 Altima. We just replaced the alternator, and one of the motor mounts. It was running great, and now it wont start. The lights will come on, but the engine wont turn over. We have already checked the battery. Any ideas?

Turn the dome light on and try to start.
Does the light go out, dim, or stay bright?
What kind of noise do you hear when you try to start?
Do the belts and alternator go round when you try to start?

We've tried that. The light stays on. It doesn't make any noise at all when you try to start it. The altinator and belts are okay, as well as the battery...any other suggestions? Thanks for your help so far.

My dad is the one working on it. He says it almost seems like maybe the security system is keeping it from starting or something...

My question about the alternator and belt moving helps me understand if the engine is turning or not which eliminates the confusion caused by many drivers missunderstanding what the terms crank(ing) turn(ing) over and others mean. The condition of your belt and alternator is not an issue.

Because the light remained on we have a very good idea that the problem is not a loose connection between the starter solenoid and battery or ground connections. Because the light stays on bright we know that the starter is not getting power when you turn the key.

Security system is a possibility. "Or something" would be your neutral saftey switch, or clutch switch if you have a manual trans. You probably allready know the ignition switch is a possibility.

Cycle key in all lock cylinders ( just in case security system is broken on one of them, this will disengage it ) wiggle shifter in park or try starting in Neutral and let me know what happens .
