***ATTN: ALL MEMBERS***

I would like to have the attention of all members of AF.
Please take into consideration everyone on here. More specifically as it pertains to sigs. I know we all like to have fancy sigs and creative ones, but, some of them are too large. For those members who have modems, small screens or slow computers and what have you, it can be a pain when it comes to download times. So I'd like to ask all involved to either shrink them down to a respectable size or remove them. I don't want this to be a big issue, just that we have to be conscious of other members and it isn't fair to some to have to suffer. So please take some time out and address this as I'm sure we all would be greatful.:D:D
P.S. As far as how small to make them, not really trying to make a standard but something along the lines of 100x or 200x should be cool. I'll leave the actual size to your judement.
Thank you all for looking into this matter and should you have any questions, please feel free to ask any Mod.

k, I'll take that into consideration when I start making the pic for my sig. :)

the other thing you can do when making a pic for your sig, is use the "save for web" function in Photoshop - or whatever is the equivalent in the imaging prog. you use - to optimise the pic for the web. That way you can reduce the size of the picture even further, and it still looks fine.

lol. Smartass.
Seriously, folks, the problem is not just images but also those with 15-2,000 lines of text detailing every mod ever made to their car. The reason pictures get so much attention is that on a small monitor, if the picture overlaps the side of the screen it causes every post to overlap the side also. So the 640x480 users amongst us are forced to scroll not only up and down, but right to left, which can be annoying to say the least.

I think it is. causes me some trouble at home. But most of my posting is at work where I have a huge net connection.

Most of these issues could be resolved with the use of a photo shop type program where you can resize the image. If you can't get your hands on one, I recommend going to www.downloads.com and download a photo editing program. It's easy and most of all FREE.:D

...and if you can optimise it for internet use, so much the better. For example, I got a pic for Andy that's something like 400 or 500 pixels wide, but is only 9k, and still looks ok. So as long as it's not so big it wrqaps off the screen...

I know I must made mine larger but its only 60K which I dont think is to bad. However, cant the people with slow modems turn off signatures? They can help themselves by doing that.

Some people can't afford high speed internet or whatever, so they shouldn't be punished by having to put up with extremely large pictures or having to turn off signatures all together.

Ah - one of the "lowest common denominator" people. Sorry, but I fail to see what “fair” has anything to do with this.

It has to do with wanting to know the personality of posters, and the opportunity to see how creative and original people are w/o having to deal with scrolling from left to right for 4 years...
Not to mention that not everyone has a 19" flat panel monitor, and since this is such a popular website, we'd like to cater to everyone, not just those with high-speed connections on supercomputers. :D

I know we dont want to put something on that sucks up the whoe screen, but we shouldn't base our decisions on the slowest machines either. As an unrelated :) example we dont base our speed limits on the slowest cars or countertops on the shortest person.

I tired to make my sig is very small bit-wise and size-wise. I hope no dial-up users were hurt by it:(
