Hi, I am having a problem with my harzard switch . it starts clicking on its own . At first it just clicked when i turned on my signals but then today it started clicking when i backed out of my driveway. The lights dont go on , it just clicks. Can anyone give me an idea of what I can do to fix this problem.
Thanks

Well there are 2 schools of thought here
1) Its a bad ground. Some have fixed it by unscrewing and refastening the ground to the frame (old spot was corroded).
2) Main turn switch is defective. You have to get into the steering column to replace this.
Neither case replaces the hazard/click module in the center of the dash. My old Malibu had this problem but only when it was dry. I never did find the bad ground before it died.

It sounds like you might have a short somewhere -- but before you try to find that out - check if you have a open recall for your hazard/turn lamp switch. I had a problem with mine intermittently working and not working and found out that there was actually a recall on it.

...Neither case replaces the hazard/click module in the center of the dash...
...check if you have a open recall for your hazard/turn lamp switch...
These are conflicting (either could be right) responses, and are talking about the same part in the center dash, so try not to confuse them. If you think the module might be bad check this thread out.

I think the "recall" period (10 years or 150k miles) is fast coming due on most of the effective cars. The part is only about $20, and it should not take more than a half-hour to replace. Good luck.

I had the "clicky" problem on my 98, and I replaced the click/hazard module in the center of the dash.. no luck.
I was in the process of checking all the grounds when the engine died so I never did find the cause of mine. The actual turn signal switch in the steering column is the other part that might be defective or have a weak ground.

Well I have two solutions for you.
1) My gf had the same problem in her 3100 Grand Am, took it to GM, and the short was traced to the radio believe it or not which is supposidely a common GM problem
2) Your 2000 Malibu has a recall that involves the blinkers, GM switches your Hazard switch to fix this recall, so since this involves the hazaard switch, they should fix that as well

The family has a 2000 Malibu. We had the same clicky sound. I first replaced the hazard flasher switch as recommended on the board (about $25) but the clicking continued. The other item in the circuit was the turn signal switch. Replacing it solved the problem (about $100 for a GM part).
The turn signal switch can be replaced in about 15 minutes. You need a torx T20 or T25 (I can't remember which one) to remove the lower steering column cover and the turn signal switch. There are three electrical connecters on the switch that you can remove after lifting the switch from the column.

I had found out that they were recalling the 2000 malibu for the hazard switch and they did mine for free
