My battery is good, but the truck makes a click or two after turning the key and the voltage just drops. I did this also with booster cables from a donor car helping me get the jump. But still no-go.

I am assuming its a starter problem. Perhaps I can hit it with a hammer - or any suggestions out here on the forum ?!

And where is the starter located?

Thanks all

its on the passenger side of the engine block. it engages with the flywheel at the rear of the engine.

If you remove the starter, be on the lookout for shims and their placement. You will need to put them back where they came from.

Thanks for the tips! Much appreciated.
Under the hood - im looking around but can't make it out just yet, is it accessible from the top or would I have to underneath the truck?

*I'm just hoping to whack it with a hammer to see if that will get the truck going and identify if it is a starter problem. The voltage shows low in the car- but the battery is full (used a voltmeter)...?

I think I would try cleaning my battery cables and checking them for corrosion before I got underneath and started whacking anything.

look through the passenger side wheel well. if you lift up the plastic fender liner it will be right there.

Have to get it from underneath and if its 4wd its a pain to get the cable and ign wire off and then you have to flip it 180 to wiggle out. Also take the posts out of the cable ends on the battery and clean them, inspect the cables for wear, and look under the battry tray at the positive junction block, and then check the ground strap to the block and frame. Lastly, battery is good - did you have a load test run or just look at its 12.6 volts - may not be so good so that is yhe #1 test.

Sounds like a connection issue to me if the voltage inside is low but the battery is full. Clean your battery terminals and check your cables.

Wow great tips - thanks again all.

I'm no grease monkey! but I will test load the battery at the auto store tomorrow and clean the cables to make sure...

but from your experiences, what are the symptoms of a bad/dead starter?
