This is a rare occurance but its starting to weird me out. Sometimes when I'm driving, the tachometer will drop to zero and shortly after, the traction off light comes on. To fix this i put the car in neutral, turn it off, restart it, put it back in drive, and keep going. My car is a 98 Grand Prix GT with the 3800 series II engine. I'm guessing this is a computer problem but i have nooooo clue. any help would be awesome.

You have the classic symptoms of a crank position sensor going bad. It's located behind the harmonic balancer on the 3800 series-II.

is this the same reason why its starting to stall out at a red light?

The crank position sensor generates 18X timing pulses to the ICM for the tach and ignition timing. Another classic symptom is engine stall out.

It can be a DIY job. Sensor may cost around $50.00. See tech procedure in link below. Good luck.
