Claim: production Camaro 12 months away; better than concept
In the September 25th episode of syndicated automotive radio program Cruise Control Radio, co-host Les Jackson claims to have seen a photo of the production version of the new Chevrolet Camaro. He claims to have spoken with GM engineer Dr. Terry Woychowski on Sunday at a press event, who showed him a photograph of the production car.
"It looks terrific," Jackson said. He claims the photo he saw looked "even better" than the concept vehicle show earlier this year. While this subjective assessment doesn't tell us much, it's safe to assume GM officials really meant it when they said the production car would be nearly identical to the concept.
Jackson also claims Dr. Woychowski told him GM was "in a real rush to get it out the door," and "don't be surprised if it's by this time next year." General Motors has officially stated the new Camaro will go on sale in the first quarter of 2009. Woychowski comments seem to suggest that date could in fact come at least 12 months earlier than expected.
If this is for real... holy wow?!?!?!?

v6 just over 20, base v8 just under 30, and go up from there probably 1-2 trims above that

but gm needs to make them cheeper with less expensive interior and crap in them or they will be like the gto and will not sell crap. make them around the same price as the rustangs and they will sell twice as manny and the rutangs. any one know what v6 they will put in the camaro yet?

I hope it comes early, that way in 09 when I'll have my degree and hopfully a year at a decent job under my belt I can buy one that has most of the initial kinks worked out. Then I can put about 9-12 lb of boost on my thirdgen and drive it on the weekends, that is if I get the wiring straighten out by then.

I hope you don't have the stock compression ratio or plan on getting a good alky kit to run those boost levels.

9.2 compression ratio, and haven't worked out the details of how to get there get there yet, but I'm going to try for at least 9 psi. My goals might change but boost on my car is so far off I'm not too woried about the details... yet.
FormulaLT1
10-03-2006, 12:18 AM
You can pull off 9PSI then with that c/r. Infact you might also be able to do 12PSI but I would use a water/methanol injection kit to run 12PSI or else you can't really advance timing too far and you will be idling a little crappy.
Nate355RS
10-03-2006, 12:25 AM
I think that with 9 psi I should be around 650 fwhp and I've never been in a car with that much power so I'm probably going to start conservative with the boost until I get a feel for that kind of power underfoot, and then step it up a little bit. I think about 700 hp be would close to the limit of my internals, but if I've got the money at the time and another car to drive, than I think it would be fun to see how far as it will go. If I do get up to the 10+ PSI range I'll make sure I take all the measures I can to try to hold it together.

They'll use the good ol 3.8 by the way it looks like since it hasnt failed so far.. or the newer 3.5.. which packs 210ish HP.. whatever v6 it is, it'll have around 200 HP, so thats all you gotta know, really.
Anyway, as far as price.. the way it seems like right now (base v8 going for a bit more above 25K) it should compete right on with the Mustang..
I just wonder how much the ZL1 will cost though.. take that new Shelby Stang on.

Once you get into that power level area, street tires don't cut it anymore. I don't care if your on the highway doing 80 MPH. WOT can still break you loose and send you all over the road. You have to do like Mr.Luos did and to a smaller extent I did. Swap to a much stronger rear and upgrade the remaining drivetrain. Then you can run DR"s or slicks and really start having some fun :evillol: .

I saw that one clip on street tires Mr. Luos posted, looked like fun.
Right now my to do list is
1. Get wiring fixed
2. Beefcake the transmission - right now it doesn't like shifting gears so much
3. SFC - t-tops are getting squeaky and I need them for a few other reasons
4. 12 bolt or 9 inch - not too sure which.
5. Boost, Boost, Boost
6. Have myself a nice cold 6-pack and think back at all the hard work it took to get to #6.

they don't even make the 3.8 anymore :(
I'm betting on something along the lines of 260+ HP 3.9 or 3.5
you can be sure as shit they're running al; the engine/tranny combos thru simulations right now to make sure mustangs, chargers, challenger-tank if it comes out, that silly skyline thingy thats comign here, and nothiing else will have shit on whatever model camaro it'd be going up against.

there has been alot of reliable speculation of the 3.9..about the v8...i dont know..the ls7 might be available but that wont be the base V8...i was also reading the Patent paper thing and drawings for a new 3 valve cam-in-block very interesting..maybe they will use that.. if you guys havnt seen it i'll post it sometime
..i have been hoping for a long time that gm and chevrolet have this planned a long time in advance, far beyond our expectations ..........to late to release it as the 40th anniversary model

i suggest everyone take the hotrod mag survey on their website about what u want in the new camaro. i took it last week. on oct 13th, all the surveys will be delivered to gm. its the last chance for enthusiasts to voice their opinion directly to gm. and it stated that production will begin in canada in late 2008 and be at dealers first quarter of 2009.

my dad has a 06 pontiac G6 GT with the 3.5 and that has some power for a 3.5, i was impressed. i think it has stock 200hp. probly come close to betting a stock v6 4.0 v6 mustang i think the g6 may b elighter, it is a 2 door g6. What do the GTP G6's have? are they supercharged 3.5?
Rally Sport
10-03-2006, 11:39 PM
Well the GXPs have the v8, so im guessing the GTP's have something a step lower or the same.
97cavalier
10-03-2006, 11:49 PM
well i found the specs on the v6's. the base 3.5 has 224hp, the 3.9 has 240hp, and the 3.6 has 254hp. thats not bad numbers for such a small v6.

edit - I meant 3.9 or 3.6
97cavalier

i think on the v6 base model they should have the 3.6 with 254hp, and have a special RS package for the "better" v6 package with a HO 3.6 or supercharged 3.6.

whatever they do, they need plenty of engine choices. in 69, there were about 7 different engines that could be had

10-05-2006, 06:01 PM
yea but its not gonna matter bc unless they get a camaro up to 500hp...theyll be the 2nd American sports car w/ the pony in front. Wat is the hp coming out of the base v8 or have they not released that info yet?
ZL1power69
10-05-2006, 07:29 PM
the z28 could have the 300hp 5.3, then the LS2 at 400hp (SS350), then the top v8 will either be the 500hp LS7 (SS427) or the supercharged LS9 at 600hp (ZL1).

what? no way will the new z28 be at nearly the same hp as the old Z. im thinking LS2...z28 LS2 w/lid or s/c..SS and s/c LS7 or LS7 w/lid...ZL1 maybe...or..everything i said, but all the engines shifted to the left after Z28....600 hp is going into supercar/exotic territory... what regular mans car below $30,000 do you know with more than 500hp? remember the still have to hype up the vette..

that was all on the hotrod survey. remember the vette always has the highest rated hp even if the f body does make more. so i doubt the new camaro will get the LS9. as for the z28, in 69 the 302 was only rated at 290hp but actually made more so maybe thats gm thinking with the 5.3 at 300hp.
Rally Sport

Yeah I highly doubt it will come with a 300hp engine.. because thats mustang power
