New precat already dead?!

I got a new precat put on my car this last spring because the precats are under an extensive government regulated warranty, so I got it replaced for free until I can someday get a header... Obviously it smelled pretty rank when it was new for a week or two, but lately when I have been getting on it a little bit it has that really bad classic sulfer smell. Could it be possible that it still needs to be broken in, or is this POS already on the outs? damnit.

slideways...

probably needs breaking in. but im not sure. what state do you live in? i wouldnt even worry about having a cat if you dont get emissions tested. that is unless you are worried about polluting more than the average person. but the precats suck on those cars. i would get a catless header just for the fact that itll be much safer for the engine.

but it happens. my buddy had a 95 neon with a 2.4L dodge stratus engine and he put a magnaflow hiflo cat on and it was completely holow 6 months later. not sure why.

yeah, like I said I am planning on getting a catless header when I can eventually afford it. There are just a lot of other things I need to take care of 1st. Shocks going out, tires, balance shaft, etc. Hopefully my xmas bonus and W2's can take care of that for me. BTW, I finally gave up and put premium in my car. Supposedly you can lose up to 8hp due to a sensitive knock sensor... but anyway the car is runnin spectacular. Raced a 97 5 series v8(friends car) last night and I was right on his bumper at 85mph and I missed the hell out of 3rd gear.
