I'm pretty sure your '88 has an HEI type distributor. So the Green wire would go the the Tach terminal on the dist, Red wire to a keyed ignition source,
white wire to an instrument panel light source and Black wire to ground.

There is a wire beside the coil that should not be connected to anything....it has a male spade connector on it....IIRC the wire is white.....connect your tach lead to this wire....

You will not hook it to your tach terminal in your dash you will have to wire it like these guys told you. The green wire you run out under the hood and hook it to the white wire chrisk says coming from the coil with a male spade on it. Hook the red wire to a source that is only hot when the key is turned on. The white wire to one of the dash lites for illumination and the black wire to a good body ground.

Even better is to connect your white wire from the tach to the fuse labeled 'instrument panel' and your tach light will dim with your dash lights.....

ok i found my coil and theres two wires goin into it.... and theres two wires comming out of it going to the distributor.. now i'm guessing i have to attach the green wire on my rpm gauge to the white wire thats coming out of the coil and into my distributor? and when i mean attach i mean cut and just join it right?

I hooked all of my after market gauges to the hot wire that comes out of my dimmer switch, use a test light till you find the one that dim's with the switch, that way your dash and gauges will be lit the same.
