i just bought a 1992 ford probe 2 weeks ago. it is my first car. the car is a 5 speed manual and i started having problems with it 3 days after i bought it. the guy i bought it off of was a mechanic and he won't even look at it for me. so i took it to our ford dealer and had them look at it. i found out that it used to be an automatic. they switched the transmissions and didn't do the wiring right. ford told me they were surprised it runs at all. now, it won't even start and they are telling me the only way it can be fixed is to have the correct wiring on it. they won't do it, because it takes to much time, and they don't make money that way. i was wondering if i took it to a mechanic how much it would cost to have the car fixed. thanks in advance for your advice.

the previous owner is a dumbass plain and simple.
what fool does an atx-mtx probe tranny swap without swapping the parts off the other car. stuff that needs to go over are the harness, ecu for starters i think. i wonder if he even used a actual mtx probe to rape the tranny from?
take it to an actual "trannsmition" shop and have them look it over.

also what kind of issues are u having with the car? is the slipping. my 94pgt atx tranny croaked after 3 months and had to replace it. i know how u feel. a ford dealer near my house gave me the finger too on a simple task..... so i took it to an independate shop and had it fixed....damm smogg repair they wouldne even help me to find a factory airbox unit to pass emmisions

Go to a scrap yard and look at both wiring harness for a automatic and a stick. If you see something missing buy the item. This means you have to look yours over fully and write down what wires aren't connected before you go.
Explain to the yard your problem a lot of them let you look with no tools and a parts puller will take off what you need.
As a dealer mechanic works on flat rate with the dealer around $80 per hour he said this to get the car out so he could get a paying job. As the car ran when you bought it have an electrical shop look at it. Ask for an estimate before you go.
I serously think you need to go back to the mechanic you bought it from with your dad. At the worst offer him $25 to $50 to check it out and install the parts if you buy them.
