gains??

i have some questions....Dont tell me it would be pointless, blah blah :)

i have a 2001 cavy 2.2 sohc
It has maybe 115 hp right?

what kind of gains could i expect with the following

bored 30 over
Head Port and polish
Flat tops for some added compression
add a set of z24 injectors (should work, right?)
Larger throttle body with a CAI
header with a 2 inch exhaust all the way back, no cat
larger cam, nothing extreme
A hotter ignition

im thinkin i might gain 45 hp...thats okay cuz i can add a turbo too :)

I made a buddy at work that has a machine shop and he told me that he would do the work on the motor for close to nohting. He can also get me the parts for cheap

i wont tell you its pointless, goals are good for everyone, but do you realize the 2001 2.2 isnt an overhead cam (sohc) engine, its an overhead valve.... and yes 115 hp is correct

Well if you're gonna get the work done for nothing...DO IT..who cares how much it gains now, go and dyno it later.

They have turbos for Cavaliers......? :grinno: I sure hope you're not looking at that eBay crud.

when i say turbo i would actually do my OWN setup..i dont do the kit trend

im more of a junkyard setup type of guy...

ive heard these motors are the best to modify, but im sure you could get some good gains if you put the work into it

I think with that motor work..keep the compression to 8.5 and not do the higher compression and stick a t3 from a 280zx with a custom manifold and an external wastegate..a 3 inch exhaust with a stock 1st gen eclipse intercooler, the car would HAUL. I would definately need to work on fuel delivery, but that wouldnt be hard..im sure a stock z24 setup would be sufficent..

that would be such a sleeper... (i have 4 door sand color car)

Ehh actually, 2.2's are the lowest engine that comes with the cavalier, and wont get much power without some sort of forced induction. But you seem to be planning that out very nicely and im sure the engine mods your are planning on doing will help even more. Haha and I hope your jokin crazyj, hanh ftw.

well ur going along the right track with just about any motor. the 2.2 non eco is proly the worst motor to modify, other than the shitty engine in the neon. and a wide open exaust and high compression dont mix just to let ya know.

All of the motors that have come in these cars have their ups and downs...Name one and I can trash talk it and praise it at the same time.

The 2.2 OHV is the easyist as for hooking everything up since the exhaust manifold is right in front of you.. As far as gains with a turbo, on stock bottom end don't go anymore than 7psi and you should yeild around 160-170hp afterwards. If you do a fully built engine you can look more towards 200-220 with a proper tune. But thats thousands of dollars later... We blew the shops turbo 2200 up this fall, so we'll see what happens when she's fully rebuilt. Oil pump failed, runnin extremly lean for a little while created soo much heat it melted the fan since our manifold is a long tube design put the turbo close to it.. then melted a couple wires on top of that...

How would the 2.2 handle high compression? sayin maybe 10-11??

No turbo just straight built up motor with high compression

Heres the thing, im havin the guy build a motor for my dad right now (its a 360 mopar) and for the all the parts i think it came to only 500-550 bucks.
he did all the block and head work for free..

SO, can you guys that know these ohv give me some input on some good parts to use? (the man wants me to get as much info before he takes the motor) so any more help would be accepted :)
