I am new to the group here and need help with my Monte Carlo.
I have a 1998 Monte Carlo LS 3.1. It seems after the car is warmed up and going up any slight incline or hill the car begins to surge. It does not make the tach move, but the whole car jerks back and forth. If the hill is steep enough for the tranny to kick out of over drive the surging stops. It seems to me the tranny is trying to come out of overdrive. I've had the car about a year and a half and I've just started driving it on a regular basis. Its got a little over 160,000 mi. Please help!

Welcome to AF, sounds like a basic tune up issue, plugs, wires and fuel filter. You could get it scanned for trans codes or pending misfire codes just to be sure.

Quite a few people on AF have experienced this jerking or surging of their vehicles. What I find strange about it is that it's mostly newer GM vehicles: Luminas and Monte Carlos. I've read about Buicks with the same problem. Why is this??? My main concern is whether or not this is actually doing damage if left alone; without repair. Because there doesn't seem to be a universal fix for this problem, I'm worried that it could do damage. It can't be good that it's trying to go in and out of overdrive...can it??? Any thoughts?
