How dick headed some customers are when they no longer get everything for free. I had a lady with 41,000 miles on her GMC Canyon come in and had brake lights out and cruise control not working. So i was my usual courteous self and offered to diagnose her vehicle for her even though my technicians were all packing up to go home for the day, and a long day it was... She needed a brake light switch which is also the disengage switch for the cruise control. We didn't have the part in stock so i offered to get her a rental car until the next day because i can't legally allow her to leave the shop without her brake lights working. She flipped out on me asking me why i couldn't get her a loaner car while hers was getting worked on...well because we dont have any loaner cars for her because those are nothing but huge liabilities. I tried to be polite with her even after this but she kept getting more and more rude with me so finally i shrugged my shoulders and walked away. I closed her paper work and made her sign a copy of the invoice saying we weren't liable for her declining the repairs.

She's now shopping for toyotas apparently...whatever

People, please be nice to your service advisors, were here doing a job just like the rest of you, i dont go to her job and cause problems there so i would expect the same courtesy, i offered her the world and it just wasn't good enough i guess... when their warranty is up some people expect everything to still be given to them on a silver platter...fuckers.... ok that's my rant for the day

by the way i'm back, it's been a while but my new job is very time consuming.

Yeah you service advisors have a tough job. You're kinda like the punching-bag of the dealership when it comes to dealing with customers. I've heard some pretty bad stories from our service advisors about our "entitled" customers.

Overall how do you like the job?? You were a warranty administrator before right??

Yeah the warranty job was a cinch compared to this, although it did help me prepare for the job pretty good, knowing warranty info is a big part of working the desk. Overall i like the job, it is pretty high stress but i'm dealing with it pretty good, if you can get past how stressful it is then you can do it. I definately feel like a punching bag a lot but the pay makes everything worth it when i see the paycheck.

CUstomers suck balls. Always have, always will. Some are cool, but its the assholes that outweigh a whole day of amicable ones. Just because dealerships are shitty doesn't mean they should treat you like toilet paper.

darn right. what gets me with my job are people asking me if i work for pepsi or the grocery store when i where a shirt and hat that has Coca~Cola in full sight on it. But now i have a new job at The Picture People being a photographer.

Should be interesting should be stressful with the holidays. Now these are going to be annoying customers, but its actually something i wanna do so, ill learn to deal.

Ha, my "customers" are pre-adolesent and adolesent children... imagine how fun it is to deal with them when they are mad. Luckily, since I am not their teacher anymore, I can just send a lil email and get the lil bastards in trouble! Muahahahahahahahahahahaha

Josh, I feel your pain man.

Even when I was just in sales in the auto industry I got to see some seriously dumb people.

Yeah, and why does every person seem to think that when i tell them how much the job is going to take parts and labor wise they flip out. You're at a dealership people, if you want a $45 an hour labor rate go to cecils repair shop on the other side of town and get shit service... I'll still charge $85 an hour and that's a fair rate if you ask me...

Only $85 an hour at the dealership!? Thats a damn good rate. I haven't taken my car to the dealer since... ever. But my place hits you for about $100. Most local places around here hit for $80 an hour.

I think people in eneral assume the dealer is gonna overcharge but they don't really know where else to go sometimes. Its like a self-fulfilling prophecy.

$85??? $100??? You guys are WEAK!!! We range anywhere from $120-$150 an hour. I think it starts at $120 for the first hour and it goes up every hour after that until $150. Gee, I can't imagine why we lose so much business to other dealerships. :disappoin

The key to running a successful dealership is asking "What would Bernard Black do?"

I couldn't, with a clear conscience charge 120-150 an hour, i mean, i need to keep my hours per R/O up but i wouldn't charge that as a means to do it.
