hot to mod

hi, im new to all this mazda world.
i got a 91 miata and want to change my shock and lower it a bit.
any recommanded brand?
i also wanted to change exhaust/mufler at a same time but i hardly know
any brand. sure i searched and read little bit on miata.net
but i just wanted to see what ppl really use
