Painting Calipers

anyone know what type of paint looks the best? i cant afford powdercoat, otherwise i would, but i'm getting some 2 piston calipers, and want to paint them red... anyone have any inside on what paint looks the best, and lasts long?

Yeah, what he said. I think Duplicolor makes it. I painted my calipers with that stuff and it looks great and has lasted without chipping or anything like that (6 months so far). Just make sure you clean up the calipers pretty well before you apply. You could either take the calipers off, or just do what I did, and leave them on and carefully apply the paint with the brush provided.

FYI, you only need to buy one kit, since the amount of paint they give you is probably enough to do like 20 cars.

Watch it Travis... I am picky, but paint is paint... and it was caliper paint.

ok, does anyone know whats the best way to clean them?i was originally going to sand blast them, but i cant figure out how the get the pistons out of the caliper. they are pretty dirty, with a lot of build up on them. they also have a little rust. any suggestions?

get a can of carborator cleaner and a brush and some soap and that should do the job

is there anyway to pull the pistons out of the caliper, so i COULD sand blast it?:uhoh: or i was also thinking some sand paper... also, would brake cleaner work as well as carb cleaner (worried about the rubber seals reacting w/ the carb cleaner)

I agree carb/brake cleaner. I used the 5 dollar can from Auto zone. Mine went gold.

ok, will i cleaned them with brake cleaner, and they are still rusty, anyone know a way to get the pistons out of the calipers (w/o access to the car?) because i think i'm going to just sand blast it. but i wanna take it apart because i'm worried about the rubber seals. thanks.

Just give it a good spraying with brake parts cleaner, and remove the rest with a brush, soap, and water. I used VHT red from autozone in a rattlecan. I put it on 3 months ago, and it's still there...even after gravel roads and a brake job..

like a wire brush? because i tried with a tooth brush, and used almost a whole can of brake cleaner on one caliper, and its still dirty as hell!!!

That would probably work, I used a stiff bristled BBQ grill brush, then a scrub brush 'n' Dawn dish soap.
