Hi guys!

I was wandering if the PPG Urethane clear can be used on Tamiya's decals without damaging them.

Thanks!

Urethane is usually one of the safest paints to put over decals.

Really? It smells really bad, so I thought it was to hot and could melt decals. :-)

But it makes sense, I will try this!

Thanks.

Whilst Urethane is generaly safe for decals it is very, very bad for the human respiritry system - like inhaling a plastic bag. Ensure you use a proper respirator when spraying it.

Give it a thin layer first. After that there's no problem. A heavy wet first layer can harm the decals.

....and if paint isn't toxic it doesn't work well:-))

we used PPG urithane paints at my last job. one of the employees refused to use the respirator system we had in place, and eventually contracted respiratory silicosis. the paint actually began to turn his lungs into plastic. not to mention the neural damage it could cause. that is some DANGEROUS stuff. but I must say it is the best paint I have ever used...professionally. for models, I think it's overkill, because I get just as good a finish using the Boyd's high gloss clear thinned with laquer thinner. (just be care full using laquer over enamel)
