When was Inital D first released?

I don't quite remember, but um, 1996?

i asked this awhile ago & nobod yseemed to know. but in the show they say the Hachi Roku was 10yrs old, so between 1984-87 was the car's model. 1996 is a good guess, & each stage is either a year or 6 months later.

sorry to bring up an old topic, but just for the record..

the newest cars the storyline has thrown at us are the evo 6 (1999) and skyline r34 (1998). assuming the racers got their cars right when it came out, project d began during the spring of 1999. so that means third stage took place late 1998. umm... forgot exactly how long first stage and second stage was, but i'm sure if third stage was late 1998, then first stage would be no earlier than 1997
