The Alarm on my 1997 Lesabre Limited keeps going off usually within 15-30 minutes after locking my car. Is there any way to "disable" it....? This is very aggravating. What is causing this to happen?

Does your "SECURITY" light come on at all while you're driving?

It will come on intermittingly...like a "blink".. For the most part however, it will stay off after the "blinking period"..

Sporadic problems such as yours, usually indicate the tamper detector on one of the three lock cylinders. (Front doors or trunk lid.)
What the Security light means, depends on when and where you see it light:
Solid light when attempting to start the car: Wrong resistance of ignition key chip, or a bad connection through the key; car will not start until VATS alert times out in 3-5 minutes.
Solid light comes on while driving the car: Circuit through the key has been lost for a full-uninterrupted 60 seconds. (Car will not shut itself down.) Probably a dirty key or dirty contacts in the ignition key cylinder.
Blinking light while car is off, door open: Reminder only, telling you to lock the car, which will activate its Security system 20 seconds after the door, closes. Triggering the security system after that will cause horn honking and light flashing until the correct key is used to start the car, or inserting the correct key in the door lock, may get it to shut off. (I do not recall for sure).:grinno:

I can stop the horn honking and lights flashing by inserting the key into the door lock and turning it to unlock doors...but, in about 15 minutes or less, the horn honking and light flashing will start again...:banghead:

Pay particular attention to the door & trunk locks and all associated tamper switches. Do you see the security light on, anytime prior to the alarm going off? Security can be a real PIG, to diagnose! :grinyes:

Is there anyway I can "disable" the security system on the car?

You can bypass the key resistor reader; however, the security alarm system operates independent from that. If you pull the fuses on the security system, it might disable both the security and VATS and the car may, or may not start. You might try disconnecting the battery for about fifteen minutes to reset the system. I have seen that work!:iceslolan
Another alternative, would be to lock your car without arming the system, or “disable the system” when parked. To do that, simply lock the driver’s door manually with the key in the door lock. (Be sure your other three doors are locked, before locking the driver's door with the key.)Your security system should now be disabled. :grinyes:
Notice; if you use the key fob (remote) to lock the doors after exiting the car, the security light in the dash will light and stay lit, for about 20-30 seconds. After the security light goes out, the system is armed. :uhoh:
In addition, if all else fails, locate the horn fuse and pull it out. This will at least keep the horn from blowing until you have the system properly diagnosed.:evillol:
