A buddy of mine has a 98 prelude and was wondering what mods he should do any suggestions. He has about 25,000 to spend. Thanks :flash:

Honestly, he should take the 25k, sell his prelude, and buy an S2000:) Or even better, take the 25k, sell the Prelude, and make a FAT downpayment on a brand new Corvette:D :D
That's what I would do anyways, hehe...
But to answer your question in a way you probably want to hear, he first needs to decide how fast he wants to go...I'd say 11s would be a good place to start. Next, take the car to the reputable tuner in your area and hand them the money...Tell them you want a fully built motor able to handle 25lbs of boost on race days and 14 lbs daily. Pick the car up in a week and they'll give you the left over 15g's or so. Use that to add whatever "show" items you want to the car...Kit, rims, full custom interior, tires, tinted windows, hood, wing, whatever floats your boat...After all of that you should have about 7 - thousand left. Use about 3k of that to get a custom paint job...Doesn't have to have graphics of any sort, just NICE, CLEAN, HIGH QUALITY, and a UNIQUE COLOR...After that, pocket the 3k and use it to treat the HORDES of ladies that will be flocking to you b/c of the BEAUTIFUL vehicle you drive!
That's all possible with that kind of money. Get a HUGE turbo, a LONG cam, a BIG intercooler, a BUILT engine with strong internals, a GRIPPY clutch that can hold that huge amount of power, STICKY tires that can transfer that huge amount of power and you'll be good to go! You'll be revving to 8500 - 9000 RPMs and making tons and tons of power and torque the whole way! Just ask if you want a more detailed summary of what I would do...

I agree totally! Preludes are very heavy and won't stand up to a modded Civic and couldn't even try to hang with a S2000. You can mod the H22 all day but the S2000 stock will still beat it!

What are you talking about?? If you mod a Prelude enough, it will smoke an S2k. And you wouldn't even need to do all that much. S2k's run low 14s stock. Preludes run low 15s stock. Add a turbo with only moderate boost and you'd be ripping the S2k apart with the Prelude.

Self is right. done properly you can make a prelude win in a heads up race against an S2K. hell i just edged one out a couple weeks ago in my supercharged lude. it wasn't a kill by any means, but a win is a win right? and similarly modified, a prelude will beat a civic 9 times out of 10. a jrsc lude will eat a jrsc civic alive. a lude with the basic i/h/e will still beat a civic with the same mods. i've beaten many modified civics with my stock prelude. :silly2:
back to the question. $25G is a pretty generous bank to work with. it's a very vague question as well. asking us what to do with $25,000 is like asking us to find a needle in a haystack. does he want a show car? a race car? both? and he wants to use all this $25,000 on modifying the car? be a little more specific as to what he's tryin to accomplish. you can do a hell of a lot to a prelude with $25,000.

A "Slightly" modified Prelude with say, A T/C will win in the 1/4 against an S2K but mod for mod the S2K will destroy a Prelude! 1 sec in the 1/4 may not sound like alot but it is! You could dump a whole lot of money into a Prelude which, don't get me wrong I love em, but down the road for modding options and sheer impact a S2K is a much better choice in my opinion!

I think you're mistaken about this...One, the Prelude has been around a lot longer and because of that manufacturers have had a lot more time to develop parts for the car. Second, tuners have a TON more experience working with the Prelude than they do with the S2K, again b/c it's so new. You will have a lot more sources of information and reputable shops able to do work on the car and know what the hell they're doing. I think you're mistaken about this...One, the Prelude has been around a lot longer and because of that manufacturers have had a lot more time to develop parts for the car. You have a TON more options with a Lude than you do with an S2K just because of it's "newness". Second, tuners have a TON more experience working with the Prelude than they do with the S2K, again b/c it's so new. You will have a lot more sources of information and reputable shops able to do work on the car and know what the hell they're doing. Personally, I think the Prelude engine, while not as fast in stock form as the S2K motor, is a much better choice for most casual enthusiasts and hardcore tuners as well.

thte engine in the S2000 does NOT respond well to mods. it's already tuned out of its gore. actually jackson racing developed a prototype supercharger for the s2000 and was only able to squeeze a measely 17 extra hp out of it at 6psi compared to an additional 70hp a jrsc adds on the h22. it's much like the ITR engine, throw a turbo on it and it won't blow your mind. you won't benefit from a turbo as you would turboing a b series or the h22 engines.

Which is a good thing, but it doesn't leave much room for improvement. Even the Computech supercharger for the S2k is shown to only produce an additional 35hp I believe, though I could be wrong on that figure.
