ok before i ask i will say what i have done. I pulled a 350 4bolt out of a 73 3/4 ton truck. Then i paid 300 for a 305 tpi with wiring and computer and other misc.parts. and i had to pull it all out of this 86 iroc. it took two days with a friend pulling it out. then i figured thati would build a 350 tpi with just a mild cam. while thinking how to save money i thought this. Get a adjustable fuel pressure regulator to supply more fuel for the 305 injectors to feed the 350 and i know that works. NOW THE QUESTION!!! would the 350 run on the 305 memcal ??? I plan on upgradeing the computer it is just for the time being. and another QUESTION?? does anyone know where i can get a memcal or prom whatever you want to call it for a 86 tpi 350 for $100 i belive that is the 7165 computer but it cant have vats on it and it needs the cold start on it. the only one i found was from Next Generation for around $300

www.pcmforless.com (http://www.pcmforless.com) can give you a tune prom for your exact application based on performance or economy. Whatever your goal may be.

Go to your local GM dealer for the Memcal, they cost about $75, or try GM parts Direct or Rock Auto. To get the best you can, get one for a 1988 IROC with the 5.7 TPI. This still has the 9th injector and no VATS.
To answer your question about the 305 Memcal...sure it'll "Run" on it...but it'll run like total crap too. Also, while you have it all apart, get 22-24# injectors for it.

well i am getting the adjustable fuel pressure regulator to run the 305 injectors on the 350 until i can get new injectors and memcal or prom whatever you want to call it. That should work right? but like you said morley it will run like crap.

I wouldn't drive it much or at all with the 305 memcal in it. There are other things that differ from the 305 to 350 in the programming and they may or may not work..One thing is the knock sensor, they are different, as is the spark control module.
You'd need to get a scanner and hook to the car to see how well/poorly the 305 memcal is handling the 350, that will be the real test.

i agree don't drive it till you get it fixed, because the knock sensor alone will screw things up because it sets the timing and if the timing is off, your pistons can hit the valves. no one wants that.

I hate to disagree here but... The knock sensor only retards timing...ignition timing...as it detects knock. This won't cause a valve to hit a piston, a cam with too much lift and poor valve to piston clearance is what causes piston to valve collision.

but if you had the 350 knock sensor i wouldnt have to worry about knock cause all it does is send a slight voltage telling the computer that there is a knock like pre detionation. so i'm kind of confused and dont now what wrong with me but what is a spark control module? I must be having a bad day. either way it will be out of commision until i get 24lb injectors and a prom. i just got thinking and figured it would work but i didnt plan on running it with the 305 prom. well maybe around the driveway but that was it.

The spark control box sits on the fire wall towards the driver side. It is a flat box about 3/4" thick and 5" X 5" square.
