Okay, on my Z28 there are 2 hard fuel lines that run on the passenger side of the engine. They turn into rubber hoses and go to the fuel pump. One is a 3/8" line and the other is a 1/4" . Which one is Tank to pump, the bigger or smaller? And how would you tell?

It's the 3/8 and should be able to tell as it's the same size all they to the carb.

i am pretty sure one is a return and one is feed. so whatever one goes through the fuel filter is feed

the line from the pump to the carb has been changed and a hose put in place of the hard line. and also the fuel filter is supposed to be just inside the inlet on the carb....
i know one is a feed and the other is return..and it makes sense the big one is the feed..i took a guess and put a universal fuel filter on the 3/8 line

You could, and should put the inline filter in the hose from the pump to carb.

Do you still have a filter in the carb inlet? Cause when the pump diaphragm starts to break down, guess where it's going to go?
