What to do????

O.k i am going to get a eclipse gsx and modify the motor but!!! when i do that how do i keep it in good daily driven order.???? is there a certen
amount of miles or time before i have to stop and let the motor and turbo cool off.????

There are just a couple things to keep your car in good shape

1. Maintenance
change your oil regularly and often, check your fluids, plugs, etc. just the general stuff to keep your car healthy

2. Tuning
you need to make sure that after you modify your car, it is tuned up properly, runing to lean will cause premature wear on your engine internals and runing fat will leave deposits in the cylinders, not to mention both of these conditions suck power.

3. Stock systems
unless you are prepared to drop some cash on tuning equipment, don't do anything like hack your Mass Air Sensor, or tweak the Boost Control Seloniod, while these are good mods that have the potenial to seriously benefit, without the proper equipment to tune, this will cause your car to idle and drive poorly.

Just get a turbo timer to cool down your turbo and you'll never have to worry about idling your car yourself.

If you stop and think about it, how many of us would drive our turbo dsm's if we really had to stop that often and let the car idle or check the turbo? I mean look at all the other factory cars that are turboed out ther all the Audis and Volvos, the people that drive those cars don't even know what a turbo is and yet they never have any problems with it. I only let my car idle after I've been driving a long way or running hard. I live in Kentucky and go to school in Michigan, I never check the turbo on the way to or from school and thats a 6 hour drive. Not to rip on people, but any one who told you that you have to pull your car over and let the turbo cool down doesnt know what they are talking about.

o.k what about upgraded turbos???? and what do you mean by idiling your car????and what is a turbo timer why is it good to have????

Upgraded turbos work just the same there is no difference. You idle your car after driving really hard or for a long time because when you drive like that your turbo will get super hot (it will literally glow in the dark at night). With the turbo that hot, if you shut the car off right away the oil inside the turbo at the time of shutoff will stay there (because the oil pump has been turned off) that oil then "cokes" or turns into a hard carbon crust on the inside of the turbo. If the coking builds up the turbo will eventually sieze and stop working. When you idle your car you let the turbo cool back down in the presences of cool clean flowing oil. The result is that you prevent coking and prolong the life of your stock or upgraded turbo. A turbo timer simply idles the car after you remove the car for a preset amount of time. (It makes it so you dont have to sit in your car for 2 minutes after racing someone to the movies, you can get out and the car will idle and shut off automatically) Hope that helps.

o.k i understand know thinks alot. does that hurt your turbo when it gets hot like that??? and is there like a type of oil you have to suply to your turbo??????

No your turbo is designed and built to withstand high operating temps, as far as oil, the turbo oil feed and return lines are plummed into the engine block (it just runs off the regular oil system) so the only oil you need is what you put in your engine, 5W-30 or for more serious racers 20W-50

How long does it have to take for the turbo to cool off???

Depends how big your turbo is and how hard you have been driving, anywhere from literally no time at all to a couple minutes

ok ummm what is boost and why is it important???

Boost (measured in psi [pounds per square inch]) is how much positive manifold pressure your turbo can build. Every single additional psi of manifold pressure results in another 10-15 horsepower.

hey when you go to a drag track to see your fastest time how do you lauch on a manual trans??? just want to know... and why do (lets say
mustangs and comaros and trans ams) when i drag race them cars the back end of them flotes to one side how do i prevent that, what am i doing wrong????

are you asking how to launch a FWD or AWD, there is a huge difference, and as far as the back end floating, are you asking why the end floats on mustangs and camaros?
