many questions about the 3.2l v-6
no on is quite sure whether or not it is an interference engine
Isuzu says it is
I had one in aa Trooper and did my own little experiment
removed timing belt slowly turned engine over with wrench no problem
you may say there is less clearance with the engine spinning faster than that which is true so heres where I put my balls on the table
with the timing and spark plugs removed I hopped inside and got to spinning it over for about a whole minute guess what it is an interference engine
no just kidding nothing happened I put it back together and all was well
I have also worked on some where the belt has come apart while running down the interstate at 70mph give it a new belt and all is well
I am not telling you guys to go out and try this I a an Isuz tech and would have been able to repair my vehicle really cheap if anything wold have happened
I just thought that you guys/gals would feel a bit more secure knowing this
another thing
line up all timing marks before removing the belt if you dont you will have to remove both valve covers to align cam shafts with t-belt pully so that cam timing will be correct 98-up models the older ones are a bit different
feel free to ask any questions I am going to be getting on more often I was busy playing SOCOM for some time its getting a bit old so I will be around

as if your experiment will convince those who like to keep this "controversy" going . . .:shakehead not that the engineer would know afterall.

anyway, now tell me something i don't know:
line up all timing marks before removing the belt if you dont you will have to remove both valve covers to align cam shafts with t-belt pully so that cam timing will be correct 98-up models the older ones are a bit different

why is this so? what's different with these 98-up models? what engine, btw?

thanks

2eye,

thanks for the update! And I think you need a good isuzu trail rig to replace your trooper.

trooper I find that to be a bit insulting I am not sure if you meant it that way
but since it sounds like you know everything I should not have to tell you what is different

just kidding man
the older models pre 98 cam timing is done allwith only one t-belt pully
the 98-up each cam has a gear on it and it meshes with a gear on the cam gear which is a part of the t-belt pully it line up somethihing like every seven revolutions so its crucial that the camshafts are not turned while apart or a lot more time wil have to be spent on settimng up the timing
