building a tpi 350

ok im getting a 89 i rock with a tpi 350, it is tore down now and the new parts are a mild cam and flat top pistons , 64 cc heads (stock) i plan to put new valves in the heads with 1.6 rockers and heavyer springs
now i want to keep the FI what should i expect
will it run ok and is the speed limmited by the computer
and if so how can it be changed or would it be eazyer to put a carb on it

You will need to reprogram the PROM/MEMCAL unit for the new specs, or it will run weird. You should also consider upgrading the injectors to ones that flow a little more - someone here with more experience with port FI can help you better here than I can - but the computer programming is an absolute must. The TPI setup will deliver more torque than a carbed setup will, so stick with it.

If there's a speed governor function, it's going to be at the rated speed of the factory supplied tires. Chances are that with that car, it will be high enough not to worry about. It too, can be reprogrammed.

A "mild" cam is what? How does it compare to the stock cam? Flat top pistons? What will the final compression ratio be? If the CR is kept to about 9.5:1 to 10:1 and the cam isn't much more than the stock cam (say like the corvette's cam of that year) then the stock injectors will work just fine and shouldn't need to be replaced UNLESS they are Multec injectors, those are/were junk and I'd replace them with some five-0 motorsport's 22# injectors. The ECM's PROM chip will need to be rewritten but the car should at least run enough to get the engine fired up and do the initial break-in of the new parts. You also ned to get a scanner of some kind, the best would be a laptop with a cable to connect it to your ALDL and software to do data logs of what the engine is doing. From this info you'd have a much better idea of what needs to be changed in the PROM programming.

Good news...the IROC's didn't have the speed limiter in their PROM set...well it is set...to 255mph (max setting) They were the top performers just after the Corvette, so they didn't de-ball them.

You can do it yourself. The equipment to do it costs about the same as a custom chip would cost from someone else. And if you have the equipment you can keep modding down the road and burn chips to compensate for the mods.
