Greetings,
I am the proud and original owner of a Black/Black 2000 LS V8 Sport/Alpine.
I'd like to start by saying... what a car! 70k miles and the only problem was a fallen rear window.
Until now of course...
Recently got a CEL, car seems to misfire. I read up about the coils and valve cover gaskets, will investigate that. However, I cannot do it myself. I went to Lincoln and they said $89.99 just to READ the CEL. I'm willing to pay it, but I want to know if there are other options first. Should I have someone else scan it?
Also, I have the front end knock, will probably try the sway bar links first.
Last one, Advancetrac light blinks upon startup. Sometimes it will turn solid and the "Check Advancetrac" warning will display. I had it reset by Lincoln once, which turned out to be a crock. Never fixed anything. I have a feeling this is going to be an expensive fix.
Anyways, I love this car. I love jumping people through the trunk, they always look at me like I'm an idiot when I back up to their car, lol! Love holding unlock and getting my car nice and cool before I enter, and love turning the key right and closing the windows. The Alpine stereo is probably the nicest OEM system I have EVER heard. I've been in Benz' and BMW's that don't have anything on this system.
Sorry for rambling, looking forward to responces. Thanks.
Dan

Welcome, but let's keep the posts PG (ie: watch the profanity).
As for checking the codes, your local auto parts chain store should be able to read the powertrain codes for you at no charge. They may confirm the misfire for you, or point you in another direction. Try to get the actual code (something like P030x) and post it here.
As for checking into the Advancetrac code, you may need to find someone with a high-end scan tool to read those. I'm not sure if the Advancetrac will blink out codes like the airbag system. I'm currently on travel and don't have my service manual with me.

Rod,
I edited my post for PG.
Free huh? That sure beats $89.99 @ Lincoln. You just saved me $90!
I recently put some SEAFOAM in her yesterday. AKA fuel system cleaner. Honestly, I don't think she's knocking/misfiring anymore. I know I'm not at full power though. Maybe b/c the CEL put me in limp mode or something similar.
I'll get that code and post it.
Thanks much.

Thank you for the edits.
Good job on the Seafoam. If nothing else, this should at least be a good maintenance effort anyway. I've experienced fuel injector cleaner fixing MANY goofy driveability issues.
