I wanted to change that filter too while my car was in for a transmission flush and they advised me that these filters last over 200 000k.

I still recommend flushing instead of changing the fluid, my car seems to shift smoothly like it did when I bought it.

FYI my car has 80000 km too.

hope that helps.

Very simple to change the trans fluid and filter. I have done it twice now in my '00 Intrigue. Changing both the fluid and filter is much better than just a flush. I had a very knowledgable transmission lady tell me this. I trust her completley.

Anyway, don't be to concerned with the torque on the pan bolts. Snug them all up and after about a week, get back under there and go over them all again. Everything will be fine.

No special tools are required to remove the filter. Justwiggle it out. Now depending on how long it been their may be one small plastic piece that does not drop out of the hole in the transmission. I took a small flat head screw driver and worked it out, then the next time I changed my filter it was stuck again and I just left it in and put the new filter in.

Another helpful hint I like to do is take a piece of electrical wire and pull the stands or copper wire out. Use these to hold the new gasket to the pan before installing. do every other hole or as you see fit. Makes it nice when going to put it back and and not having to fight the gasket to line up with the holes. The copper wires are so small they just smash into the gasket.

Hoep this helps. Oh, one other thing, replace one quart of fluid with LUCAS transmission oil. That stuff it awesome. Well worth it.

The OEM gasket for the tranny pan is re-usuable and expensive to replace. It's a very nice gasket. The tranny pan is thin metal and will bend.

=use the proper spec of 10ft/lbs when torqueing the tranny pan bolts =you do not want to mess up the gasket or bend the tranny pan. Get the pan on even and tighten all bolts by hand first, then 5ft/lbs then finish with 10ft/lbs. Torque in a cross-rotational pattern just like a tire.

you can go ahead and buy a transmission filter kit just in case. It will come with a new gasket, and the gasket and filter are about 15-20 bucks together...so not expensive at all, but the OE one should be reusable though, so go with it.

Snug those pan bolts, dont try and tighten them too much, this is aluminum youre dealing with, and you dont want to overtighten them and strip them out.

Dropping the pan is the messiest part, I recommend you start slowly undoing bolts in certain areas to allow the pan to drop in certain parts and do your best to collect what fluid you can, youre going to make a decent mess no matter how you do it.

why do you need a service manual for a tranny filter change? Or did you just want one in general?

If you want a repair manual, you should be able to pick up a Chiltons at most any auto parts store. Its the same one as the 97-00 Grand Prix. Its Chiltons # 28380

try alldatadiy.com for $25year and see if you like it.

The tranny pan gasket for the Intrigue was hard for me to find at the local auto parts stores = that's because the OEM gasket is re-usuable. I actually had to buy 2 kits when the first Fram one did not have the gasket because I thought I needed the gasket (always did before). The filter itself is cheap ~$6-7, in a kit with a gasket ~$15+ (+hard to find).
