Alright, this is a simple thread that you can post anything in here that you want as long as its within the forum guidelines.. hopefully this will bring some life to the forum as yes it is kind of dead. But get to posting people.

And here's just a gif I find hilarious..

I'd join this forum, but I don't have a cool plush green couch in my front lawn, or a Monte for that reason :sorry:

All though I would love to have an -87 SS one day.

Another thing I think would be neat is the late '70's model with a TPI motor transplant, that would be neat.

Having owned 4 Montes in the last 20 years, a '76,'78, and two '81s I'd have to say my favorite body style is that of the second generation ('73 to '77). I just love the big GM cars from the late '60s through the '70s. I was so into Montes back then my friend and I knew all the little differences that changed each year such as the placement of the front emblem,(on the grill or on the header panel) and odd year Montes had the "bars" on the taillights whereas even years did not have any. My dream Monte was a 1973, similar to the one in the Original "Halloween" movie. I tried for the longest time to locate one in good condition in my area, which was hard because they all had rusted out. I ended up coming across a header panel with grill from a '73 and retrofitted it on my '76 which seemed hard at the time but wasn't. (It was a matter of moving a few items around and going from 4 square headlights to 2 round headlights.) The finished product looked great and confused some people when they saw the front assuming it was a '73, but when they saw the back and the smooth taillights from the '76:lol:. I even had taillights from a '75 that I wanted to mount on the car to further confuse people. Believe it or not I don't think I have seen a second generation Monte in my area in the past couple of years. I think they are all down south. Too bad they all rusted out in my area.

Bryan, time to do some recruiting. Send out invite to all the members in your possy. It was shear luck the one day I found this site. I was looking up statistics on my camaro and came across this site and joined. Now I cant get enough.... Maybe you can ask ts to add a sub section or something. Kinda model it after the maro forum but with out all the sub sections. I am sure people would love to post vids of their cars, I do! PM the members and ask them what they would like to be done to the site to make them want to come more. There are ways to get people to come just need to find their G spot....

If you want help I will. But if you want people to come you have to make it fun. I am lucky. The Camaro forum was in full swing before I was ever thought of to be a mod. So my work is cut out for me. But if you want help to get people here just ask.

I've never owned a Monte before, but my favorite body style is the 70-72 years.

My sister had a 70 with a 327 and a friend of mine in high school had a 71 that was
near perfect till he drove the thing into the ground!

You know what would be cool to see. A composite of everyones Monte in one image. (Mind you this can be also done for any model for that matter), Get the members to post up pics of their Monte, but in the same position lets say looking left like this...
http://i24.photobucket.com/albums/c17/corning_d3/My96LSBefore.jpg

but with nothing around it (so it does not reflect off the cars' shine). It should also be consistant, in other words everyone who submits a pic should all take the picture in the same angle, in an open area (like a parking lot) with no tree, fence right next to it. Then have anyone good in photoshop to edit all the Montes together lined up, insert a nice background and viola, instant forum members cars all lines up like if they were at a meet. It would make for a great banner, sig.

It's fairly easy to post a pic in your thread or signature. The quickest way I found is to upload your picture to an image hosting site such as wwwtinypic.com (there are others online as well,) and get the url for the pic. When posting the pic use these tags: before the pics' url and then use after it. Make sure your pic meets AF's size limitations, if it doesn't, you'll get an error message and will have to re-size it to fit.

Well in the FAQ it was easier than that but I don't have the option. Should an administrator read this please advise because this is the one thing that is frustrating to me not to be able to post a pic, thank you. MMC

If you want to post a pic you have to host it first. Either by adding it to your AF gallery or using a site that host pics. I like to you this site http://www.imageshack.us/
Seems to work great you hit the browse button, do the lil search on your puter for the pic you want. Then click resize for message boards. Hit the go go gaget button. It resizes for you. Then copy the link usuall the first one under the pic and past it in your thread or post. The pic will show up like this

Freaking heck this is sweet! k so pretty much there is nothing i can do in the supercharger/turbocharger area for my 97 monte, anyway I was going to get a cold air intake, but the guy helping me said..screw paying $150 for it and buy a k&n filter and just cut a huge hole in your intake box...and boy did it work. There is alot more power especially above 60 mph and there is alot less hesitation between gear changes...and all for only $50 compared to $150. oh if you want to do it I recommend using a hand saw to cut your box. unless your really skilled with a hacksaw its very difficult and just chips away the plastic and leaves a crappy mishapen cut, it only takes a little muscle and 20 min and you have your own custom made cold air intake..! sweet! if anyone else has any tips on quick power makers and or ways to supercharge and or turbo my car let me know eh!

"Ain't that the truth!" I rarely see any pre '88 Montes in my area anymore. The salt they use on the roads in the winter justs eats away at them:frown: The only ones I see are in excellent shape meaning they store them in the winter, or have recently bought one up from down south where they are more plentiful.
Yeah, floors were a common replacement item when I had my Montes. I remember the '76 I had, I was driving home late one night with a friend and we hit a big pothole in the road that was full of water so you couldn't see it. Well the passenger side area was completely doused with muddy water, even on the inside of the windshield. I guess the force of hitting the pothole broke through the rust on the floor and the rotted carpet giving access to the water to get inside of the car.
Some "improvements" you could consider for your '77 would be a nice sound system, rims, and a custom paint job. I like those custom paint jobs that accent the unique body lines of the Montes in those years. If you get a chance post some pics.

My '76 had that deep red metallic ( metal flake) that GM used during that time and it looked great on that car. Black is another good choice w/ a red interior. Perhaps with red pinstriping.

okay, so i dont know that much about cars, but i have a 90 dodge dakota, a 94 camaro, and 95 monte carlo z34 and a 97 monte carlo ls. the monte z34 is having a few problems, and im not sure what i can do about them. It is a nice car ( black, leather, dual exhaust, DOHC, etc), but it had been wrecked before I bought it. It is having some problems with the drivers door. Mostly the locking mechanism like the button on the inside wont lock it, nor will my keyless entry. I took the door panel off and realized the whole thing is broken. But it will lock maunally and with the key. but now the door latch keeps falling down and makes it difficult to shut and sometimes my dome and map lights will not shut off until the power saving device kicks in after 10 minutes. any ideas on what I should do?

Y' wanna bring some life to these forums? Restructure them. They're a nightmare.

In terms of the GM segment, we've got wildly-overlapping topics while at the same time they've lumped totally-dissimilar vehicles together. Instead of having thriving, vibrant, well-defined sub forums, we've got heaps and piles of near-randomness.

Since this was posted on the "Monte Carlo" forum; we'll start there. '70 to '72 Montes should be in with '70 to '72 Chevelles and El Caminos. MAYBE in the same forum as '64--72 GM "A-Bodies".

'73--'77 Montes should be with '73--'77 Chevelles and El Caminos; and perhaps grouped with all '73--77 "A-bodies".

I'm thinking that '78-until-whatever-year they quit making them would be in the G-body section, or at least with the G-body Chevies.

And from 95-up, should be combined with the W-body platform, if not the Chevy W-bodies. My '98 Monte has far more in common with a Pontiac or Olds of similar year and platform than it does with a '73 Monte.

If the site were set up to respect the GM platforms instead of the GM nameplates, there's be tons more people with similar issues with similar cars to drive readership and add to postings visible to others.

100% disagree. Cars have had computers for 30 years now. Every car I have ever modded has had a computer. Computers are not hurting the car culture. Hell they are making it easier.

Blue Bowtie
04-05-2020, 08:11 AM
That must be a typo, because I know where I live it's about 20 years behind the rest of the world.

It's been 40+ years that cars have had engine management computers, and a full 10+ years prior to that when things started going heavily electronic, like ignitions, charging systems, and some emissions controls, and this is not considering radios.

Examples?

1964 - Electronic cruise control in Ford cars

1967 - Electronic voltage regulators in Chrysler and Plymouth cars

1973 - Air bag system in Buick, Cadillac, and Oldsmobile cars

1976 - Full electronic fuel injection system in Cadillac and Oldsmobile cars.

1980 - The floodgates opened, and even carburetors and transmissions had electronic controls.

My meaning was it is hard to find a mechanic who can diagnose instead of the "code reader" to a remove and replace parts.

Stealthee
04-05-2020, 09:32 AM
Not really. I think the perception is warped because there are too many "online mechanics" that think a code reader is the only way to diagnose a car.
