i know code 42 is the electronic spark timing, but i don't know how to fix it ne suggestions? it start, and runs fine, but there is less power, and economy.

Your issue is either ICM or ECM related. Pull the ICM and have it tested at an AUtozone or an O'Reily. If it tests good, then suspect the ECM. It might be able to be tested as well, but if not then just get one on Ebay or from a junkyard.

Check the wires and harnesses to and from the ECM and ICM first though. Could just be loose or short in the wire.

yesterday, i took the coilpack and alternator off to get a good look at the wiring, and went under and tried to see if the cranksensor could be the problem, but i don't have a harmonic balancer puller, so i just pushed on the plastic cover so i could see inside. didn't see nething wrong. i cleaned up the connector and plugged it in. wiggled the wire harness a little. put everything back together, and i haven't gotten the code again but that doesn't really fix nething... if it comes back i'll rent a puller.

is their a code for the crank sensor?

If there is a code for the crank sensor, then it never trips.

But your problem is still related to either the ECM or the ICM. Check those first. A bad crank will cause hard/no starts and rough running.

What your car is doing, is that the ecm isn't getting the correct ignition signal form the ICM, and to compensate the ECM is just running at defualt settings, therefore the poor power and decreased fuel economy. So...ECM or ICM or the wires in between.

Edit: Let me clarify a couple things:

ECM= Egine control module, AKA "the Brain" aka "the computer"
ICM=Ignition Control Module AKA "the thingamabob that the coils are screwd/wired into"

Messing with the HB or the crank is a waste of time and money untill you rule out the above.
