does this sound like a blown head gasket?????

i let my car warm up, and got the following compression readings

cylinder1 115 psi
cylinder2 60psi
cylinder3 90psi
culinder4 100psi

when referring to the haynes manual it states minimum psi is 100

well the car keeps wanting to over heat, i have some coolant loss, but no external leaks?

plus after the car has been running and gets warmed up, afer i shut the car off the over flow tank is bubbling, like there is hot air leaking from the radiator thru the overflow hose into the overflow tank ????:banghead:

any comments would be helpful thanks

Steam in exhaust? Sounds like the head gasket is blown between cylinders 2 and 3. This will allow compression to push between cylinders on compression strokes and could allow coolant into cylinders where it would escape through valves in to exhaust etc... Also check oil and make sure it's not milky or foamy both indicate coolant in oil. When/if you change the head gasket be sure to check block and head surfaces for warping from heat.

At 115psi as your highest reading on all cylinders the engine has a good deal of wear on it. There's more of a difference between cylinder 4 and 1 then 3 and 4. Plus cylinder 1 is closer to cylinder 3 then cylinder 2 is to 3. If you have no coolant in your oil then you may have a valve or piston ring problem in cylinder 2 and a generally worn out engine. Your flirting with the minimum or past it on all cylinders

On the other hand, because your car is overheating then you may have indeed blown the gasket possibly have a warped head. It may be a blown gasket but if you put a new one on it will blow again unless you re-surface the block/head.

Any smoke out the tail whatsoever?

I had to choose I think your head gasket is fine and your coolant loss is the coolant boiling away. You have a bad valve/seat, but possibly have a bad ring, piston, or cylinder wall etc. in #2. The engine won't run very long, reguardless, if you don't get that hot condition solved first.

Good Luck
