Tuning...

Hey, I need some help making sure my tuning is ok...
I haven't had any problems out of the car (that I know of), but wanna be safe and efficient...
Ok, I live in NC (125 ft above sea level)
I run 93 Octane fuel
Boost set at 16.5 (spikes 17)
hacked MAF
K&N filter
SAFC II (stock settings)
2.5" exhaust
stock turbo and motor
I haven't set any correction on the SAFC, and it doesn't show any knock... I didn't know if I'd need a DSMLink or anything like that to tune it initially, I do have plans to pick one up, but money is tight right now...
My A/F gauge shows the car rich when I get on it, and it sweeps when I cruise, so I'm guessing everything is ok, but I know that the O2 sensor is too slow to use it to tune... so any suggestions? tips?

First, I'm pretty sure, well atleast for 2g's, but the knock signal on the safc doesn't work for our cars. Second, don't trust the blinky light-show on that Autometer A/F gauge UNLESS you are running a wideband o2 sensor. Other than that, there isn't much else to tune, since you haven't really messed around with the fuel. You should get a datalogger, or like you said, DSMLink soon to see what kind of things are going on inside your ecu to help you tune it.

oh yeah, I'm sry... I have added a Walbro 255lph fuel pump, and a FMIC...
I forgot a/b those...
and don't have a wideband... and I don't recall hooking up a knock sensor wire, but under sensor check there's voltage (when car is running, but not when it's off)... so I didn't know for sure...

Yeah, you shouldn't have any knock reading on the SAFC on 2G. The only way to trust the F/F guage without a WBO2 is at WOT and if you know what the readings on the gauges are set to. I have a datalogger and I know when the second to top red bar is fully lit and the one above it just starting to light up, the A/F is almost perfect. I believe it's about .94 or so. That will change with all gauges though. And you don't want to always trust that. If I make a change on the fly without a logger hooked up, I always test it out with the logger right when I get a chance. Don't start tuning on that without a logger or DSMLink.

Ahh. Totally missed that. Still, tuning is still the same.

alright, I'll start saving the money to get the DSMLink

I just want to bring attention to this page (www.posracing.net/afr.html) again, the pic at the bottom that illustrates how the front O2 sensor can read .98 while the wideband reads 13.5:1 as 3 of my 4 pistons make thier way out my exhaust. ;) Be VERY careful when looking at front o2 voltage.

is this a good deal for a datalogger?
