Hey guys I found these forums and I just turned 16 so im gonna be asking alot of car questions. I know you guys will be of great help. Well to give you a base I own a 1998 camry le v6 . The previous owner was my mom so I knwo the history of it. Neway Im looking to give it a slight performance boost. I really dont need it but I was wondering if puting in A cold air intake. By injen http://store.racinglab.com/97toycamsolv.html would do anything to give it a performance boost. Also It would be of great help if somone would would on day just give me a good ground base of the parts of the engine and stuff like that. My aim sn is evan6807. I am also looking for one of those cruise and meet things in the dallas area if anyones knows about those types of events. I might hit up another catagorie for that question. Once again thanks alot.

Welcome to the forums. An intake would be a good start to your mods, but i wouldnt spend $220 for one. After the intake i would get an exhaust, and then after that it really depends on how much you want to mod.

Cold air is a good mod a very common mod to s begin with. You may hear a slight roar from under the hood under heavy acceleration but it won't be anything major for performance (which is OK for a 16 year old).

haha.
IMO dont mod your camry besides like an intake and some tint, possibly some rims and a nice interior/stereo. its a daily driver, not a porsche.
get a better car to mod later on. youll just regret wasting thousands on A CAMRY.

Agreed, save your money... Camry is for getting you to work and back. Not for racing. If you want to waste money, you can just simply paypal me the money you don't want anymore and your car will run just the same had you spent it on 'mods'.

I think im gonna stick to what slideways said. Im really not going to race it. But my stupid friends want to cause they want to say they beat a v6 but they dont belive me when I say they would because they can hit higher rpms. IM already going to get new wheels i just put a 500 sound system. into it. I might get some tint. And im getting a new paint job. Also do you think getting a body kit would look stupid if I didnt put Anything into the engine and left it stock?

just leave the whole car stock, body kit and wheels do nothing but slow it down.
Save your money, buy a project car. Trust us when we say we know better. We've all dumped money into a shitpiece only to realize it really is a shitpiece and we wasted our hard earned money on a car with even less resell value now that we've dicked with it.

Yeah, be like me and just go all out! Get ya a "project car" that requires being pulled (towed) to a race track in order for you to drive it AND something that makes you spend out the ass to just race, much less "mod" and maintain :shakehead :screwy:!

o great. those are pretty nice cars stock. i dont think you need to mad it as it was developed and researched highly by toyota for one thing and one thing in mind as it is on of the top selling midsize sedan. it is for carrying people with a lot of saftey!!!!!!!!1
no point of modding it unless u want sound in it. tints and some sound would be nice, but dont bother spending too much into it.

If you like Toyotas, you could get a 1st gen mr2 or ae86 corolla to learn how to drive on it and fix it up.
Hit up some autocrosses, they'll improve driver skill tenfold.

Mine's not a shit piece, but I've dumped money in mine only to learn that it is slow now, it was slow before hand, and without Boost+spray, it will be slow eternally.

While I agree with everyone about not dumping alot of money into the camry, and especially not on a bodykit (please, please, no). An intake isn't a bad place to start. It's a good beginning mod, and you can find a cheap one on ebay for around $30. Install it yourself and it will at least start you working on your car, and give you a bit more confidence in getting under the hood.
Also being that you are 16, I don't think you have any need for a high-hp car quite yet. Learn to drive the camry, keep it for a few years and save up some money. You'll be much happier a few years down the line when you can afford something nice, and have the experience to not wrap it around a tree.
