Good to see an update.
I was afraid this was parked or was going to be a surprise on the deadline.
Great work BTW, I'm looking forward to seeing the finished model.

Got some detailing done today.
The master cylinders for the brakes and some fittings for the rear radiator.

Also thought the car was a bit too "dark" so I decided to paint a polished lip on the wheels.
Pretty pleased with the result of that.

The polished lips make a really nice contrast with the "darkness" of the CF ;)

How on earth I missed this thread!!!:eek2: :eek2: :eek2: What a monster you're making, it's too cool to comment! Actually I was not that interested in the S7 groupbuild before, but after seeing your guys' performance I changed my mind. It's fantastic to build anything in your mind, now I feel the S7 groupbuild is SUPERB!!!

Wow! This is some good stuff you got going here! Love your carbon fiber work! Youre a true artis with carbon! If you dont mind me asking what color you spray on the headers? Spray or airbrushed on? I like the metalic look it gives off.

Martin S
03-06-2007, 07:02 AM
The headers are actually not painted or polished at all yet.
They are made from a special kind of solder wich contains 5% silver. It is much stiffer to bend than normal solder, but has a much nicer shine.

Martin S

Have started to assemble some stuff.
Will just show some details.
First of all I put on a fan for the front radiator, and some mesh in the nose cone.
The shocks are pretty much done so I will soon start to assemble the push rod linkage.
The sidewall reinforcements are in place, but as seen in the second pic they won't be very visible.

http://i277.photobucket.com/albums/kk77/plexxi/lotus/details.jpg

Battery is in, and some ignitions cables aswell. They will be mostly covered by the
intake so they are not complete all the way to the spark plugs.

http://i277.photobucket.com/albums/kk77/plexxi/lotus/details2.jpg

Hope to wrap this up pretty soon, although maybe not in time for the deadline.. :)

What clear did you use on the carbon?

Terrific stuff as always. That fan is awesome!- it looks like the first stage of a turbofan engine. Either way, it's gotta be good for a few extra kph!

Don't worry too much about the deadline, I think you'll make it- it's been extended a couple of months to 07/07/07.

Oh my heck.

Martin S
03-21-2007, 07:09 PM
Its good to hear that the deadline is adjusted..
But I want to finish this so I can start on my 60 red years project before it becomes 61 red years .. ;)

D_LaMz: The clear is just normal automotive clear from a spraycan. I find this the best method. The brand is Hagmans wich I kind of like.

Now to the update:
The suspension is almost finished.

http://i277.photobucket.com/albums/kk77/plexxi/lotus/DSC01233sm.jpg

The painstaking exhaust headers are also in, for the last time I hope... You can also see the brakes.

http://i277.photobucket.com/albums/kk77/plexxi/lotus/DSC01242sm.jpg

This is how the front end will look. I 'm very pleased with how the fan can be seen through the nose cone grille :)
Like a big vacuum cleaner ready to suck in every mosquito within a mile radius..

This is extremely awesome. I love how you have carefully considered the various sub-systems of the car as though you are building a real one--such as sufficient engine cooling, structural integrity, etc. And your CF decal skills are great! I'll be sure to keep watching this thread.

Long time, no update on the beast...
But the deadline of the 7th of july is approaching fast !
I have been doing some detail fabrication today.
The oil cooler is installed on the roll cage and plumbed with A/N fittings.
Also added a fire extinguisher:

The brake lines are also installed on the brake master cylinders:

Hi Martin,

outstanding stuff you're building. Your build kind of dwarfs all other 7 builds...and not just by engine size.
Keep it up, there's still a bit of time left ;)

Cheers

Hello, Dopey the Dwarf here :D

Excellent detail!

Glad to see you pushing for the finish date. I was just writing to a pal that I must do my final assembly tomorrow before I leave for vacation.

Ok Since I'm not at home this weekend, this will be the last in-progress update before this model is finished.
Hope to put up a completed thread later tonight.

I have put on the headlights which are box stock except for the bracket.

http://i277.photobucket.com/albums/kk77/plexxi/lotus/DSC01898sm.jpg

I didn't know what do about the air filters so I resprayed them in green and gave them a wash.
Think they look decent now.

http://i277.photobucket.com/albums/kk77/plexxi/lotus/DSC01903sm.jpg

And finally I made an engine ECU and some wiring harness and connectors that I put between
the battery and the brake cylinders on the bulkhead.

http://i277.photobucket.com/albums/kk77/plexxi/lotus/DSC01899sm.jpg

Watch out fot the completed thread later..
