Can anyone assist with what might cause a failure like this when the latch is tested good on another car? Is there a fuse link for this unit?
:banghead:
Thanks,

Have you checked the relay and fuse in the passenger side fuse/relay center? Pic below:

You could do what I did, which is to bypass the normal path for the power source for the trunk release button (essentially you are bypassing your transaxle position switch, which is most likely the source of your problem).

Open the dash enough to remove the trunk release button to the left of the steering wheel. Then cut the light green/black wire about three inches from the button and solder a new wire about 2 foot long at most to the remaining light green/black wire sticking out from the button and solder the other end to the orange wire coming out of the back side of fuse 11 of the main fuse box under the driver's side dash. You need to fish the wire down from behind where the trunk release button sits to run it behind the dash. It is not hard to find a path. (For the orange wire, don't cut the wire, but simply remove the insulation for about 1/2 inch with a sharp knife several inches away from the fuse box, then solder the new wire to that opening in the wire, then cover in electrical tape). When done, take the remaining slack of the wire and attach it to existing wiring with ties, or electrical tape, or whatever.

Why do this? One, it bypasses the common source of trouble--the transaxle position switch. Two, it allows you to use the trunk release button at any time--with or without the ignition key in the keyhole, or with or without the car running. It is very nice this way and in my opinion should have been wired this way from the factory.

EDIT: these directions are for a 92 LeSabre. A 95 may or may not have the exact same wiring colors or fuse box locations. I think they are the same, but I don't know for sure.
